Last year, instead of buying Christmas presents for each other, our friends and us had a short break in one of these big country hotels which are quiet during the winter months. It was near Chesterfield and on the Saturday night we had one of those murder mystery events and a nice dinner. On the Sunday we visited the Crich Tram Museum (my choice). This year we want to do a similar thing, but obviously somewhere different. So lets hear your ideas please. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "famous" touristy place like Bath, just somewhere where there will be SOMETHING interesting or different. We'll be in a car so a few miles away from the hotel isn't a problem.

Sounds fun Gness. The four of us used to go on treasure hunts together years ago. We'd probably enjoy that.
Scarborough is hilly.....Minty and I were too exhausted for anything to happen, Donny...... :-(

Give it a go, Horseshoes......lots to choose from.....I like the murder ones.......they are fun......except Scarborough......☺

We wouldn't go to Scarborough anyway, because we fairly recently went there to see Status Quo in the outdoor theatre. Visited Whitby too - that was lovely.
I had a splendid short break here :

The hotel itself is fantastic - one of the best 'restaurant with rooms' type places I've ever stayed in - great food and comfy rooms too.

Uppingham is a lovely little town and nicely placed for Rutland Water and some interesting tourist type places around Leicestershire.

There is even (before gness pipes up) :
