Given the wording of the clue libels is definitely the correct answer. I suspect
that labels has been mistakenly given to the printers as the answer. I'd be interested though Cliffyg how the Telegraph highlighted your 22d as the wrong answer since this is apparently a prize crossword.

Lgp. The mistake was highlighted. I originally put libel and when I amended it to label it was accepted.

My apologies for pestering you, dannyk13 but 1) libels is undoubtedly the correct solution and 2) do you have some sort of access to the crossword setter(s)? If so , you would seem to have a possibly unfair advantage over the rest of us poor strugglers. Most grateful if you could explain.

Danny I suspect you may use a different device to me to complete your
crosswords, I use a tablet and although it may tell you that some answers are incorrect it never tells you what they are. I spent a long time this morning going over each answer and believe I was correct even though ST disagrees very frustrating.

Chris. I do the crossword online where incorrect solutions are not accepted.I do not enter this competition which can only be entered by submitting a hard copy.Completed crosswords cannot be downloaded.only the grid.

It seems that there are more twists to the weekend crosswords than I knew.
As well as submitting a hard copy of the solution you can also submit one online using the Telegraph App. Theoretically you can establish the correct answers online then go to the App and enter the competition. Not worth entering in my view no credibility in winning

Many thanks for your explanation, dannyk13. Clearly you do not have any sort of unfair advantage other than that shared by all internet solvers. I must say that I do not think it is right that there is a screening process which rejects incorrect solutions but I suppose that`s just the way it is - internet rules the world!

The setter has now corrected his error.Brought up the crossword to check something and found a blank grid. I completed it again and LIBEL was accepted.
