If we found ourselves in a holiday home in the USA without wifi/internet connection (heaven forbid!) is there something we can buy to provide wifi while we're there? Or what's the best way without it costing a fortune in data charges while abroad?

There are lots of places in the states. Verizon Wi-Fi, for example, lets you connect to your Internet
service at airports, hotels, cafes and other hot spots.

You can also buy one here in the U.S. that's cheaper but you would have to be a subscriber to one of the providers like AT&T, Verizon, etc. The device changes the LTE phone signal to wifi anywhere you can receive the… which is almost anywhere here...
