Wrong Mobile Number Stuck In History

While manually swapping mobile numbers from Blackberry to HTC Android, I missed out a digit in one of them. I corrected it later, but when I try to reply to a text from the right number, it always sends to the 10 digit one that seems to be stuck in history somewhere.
Tried deleting the contact and starting again, and have tried deleting all memory and cookie caches and history and anything else I can find, but its still doing it. To send a text to the right number I have to forward it, and in the list of recipients, the bogus 10 digit number is still there with 'history' next to it while the correct one is also there with 'mobile' next to it.
Any ideas?

A bit extreme but backup all your contacts etc to you computer and then do a factory reset
You've probably checked but make sure you are not mistaken and have two directory entries for the same name. Seems very strange that a reply should go wrong though. One would have thought the reply would always go to the sender of the received text regardless what is in the directory.

I'll do the reset as a last resort, but it would be a pain!
I cannot work out why a reply would go to anywhere other than the number it is replying to, but it does.
