This morning, I had a telephone call from (0019372470349) and an Asiatic gentleman said something along the lines of " I am speaking on behalf of Microsoft Computer Monitoring Services and have to advise you that there is a virus in your computer, which could cause you serious problems". My reaction was... "Which one of my Computers because within my family there are at least ten or eleven." His response was "The one on this Telephone line."...I reacted and said that there were three on the line and one was 'hard wired' and the other two were on Wireless connection. (All of my comments being completely untrue). I continued to engage him in conversation and asked what telephone number he had dialled. Unfortunately he was unable to tell me but explained that his function was to react to whatever came up on his computer which would involve Telephone numbers which were connected by Broadband to Computers which had been identified, through highly Technical equipment, as being in danger of being completey dis-abled without attention being given to remove the virus.

The point was then reached where I told the caller that he was Scamming me and that I had held him on-line for long enough to enable the Local Police to be in a position to trace the site from whence the call had come............Strangely!!... The line immediately went dead.

Its calls like this and others, that has resulted in me taking my landline "off the hook" permanently. People who need to call me know my Mobile number and use that.If I need to make a long distance call myself, in the evenings and at weekends, I put it back on the hook, and then take it off again when I am finished. Its a bit of a faff but its the only way I can cope with...

Poor man, he's just trying to ear a few bob!
^Earn!
The long winter nights must just fly by...
If I get this type of call, I answer it and then lay the phone down with the speaker on until the caller gets fed up of talking to him/her self
"You are from Windows? Now that's really good as I am looking for a windows cleaner. I have fifty here ready to be cleaned, that should keep you busy. Should we say £30 for the job and a free tea and jugged hare or pulled pork sandwich for lunch?"
I totally agree with Tilly2 and Li-in-King.
I agree with Unsureme .
The trouble is he is trying to earn a few bob by relieving us of as much of ours as he can
I had a similar call Hans and asked him which computer was affected. When he replied that it was the one I was using I asked if all the Government Computers were affected by the virus. Silence..............
Politely saying you're not interested and hanging up is almost as quick as saying to someone 'you have a wrong number' if that's the ca.

I think the trying to outdo the 'nuisance' caller tales has come full circle and it's now tedious. .

I'm with Kylesmum on this one.
These people aren't telesales people trying to earn a few honest bob, they're nasty, weasily scammers who would rob their own grandma of her life savings if they could, they deserve nothing but contempt. How would you feel if they relieved your mum, nan, auntie, whoever, of their life savings? Would you still be polite to them? I doubt it.
If Hans or anyone else manages to glean a modicum of amusement by dealing with them in whatever way they see fit, then good luck to them.
Do you seriously think they haven't heard it all before?

Best terminating the call. I have my parents well warned not to go down the route of engaging with them....more out of embarrassment that they should be one of the ones who seriously think they are getting one over on them :)

@ethandron...Well said......Most of the calls centres involved are in India, which is a very rich Country; yet the UK Government still keeps giving it millions of pounds in Overseas Aid.

Sorry if I have now digressed from my OP....Hans.
someone up there with no spirit of fun, irony or sport.......

Hey...What's going on here. This is my thread and, whilst I appreciate all that has been said by our good friend mikey, I have NOT given him 'Best Answer'.

Someone is now playing games........or I do have a virus on my Computer.

Hans.
@ dannyk...the trouble with doing that, is that it can result in the phone ringing at 3 or 4am.........:/
