Everywhere I go now I get hassled with staff wanting to sell me this and that in addition to just the item I want to buy.

There are only so many ways I can politely say no to the Post Office clerk I refuse every week when he tries to sell me their internet and phone packages!

No! Just give me my stamps! LOL!

But today took the biscuit.
Ordered a new dresser from Oak Furniture Land online and then went out.

On my return there was a message to call them regarding my order.
Really worried there was a problem I rang straight back.

The girl thanked me for my order and then proceeded to try to sell me their specially formulated wax. No thank you I say, what about our 5 year warranty!

Arrgg! Really has put me off them now.

you only need one way to say no thanks, and that's no thanks. Just keep saying it.
We got, some free with our Wren bedroom furniture.
It's W H Smith that drives me up the wall. You can't even buy a newspaper without being offered a Terry's Chocolate Orange (or similar) on 'special offer', which usually means that they're still much dearer than in other shops!

Fast food outlets aren't much better. I'll clearly order a 'regular' meal and still be asked 'Do you want to go large with that?'. To make it more annoying, I'll ask for a regular meal 'to eat in' and then, having rejected the offer of 'going large', I'll then be asked 'Is that to eat in or take out?'. It seems that their staff's brains are wired in such a way that they can't cope with the 'eat in'/'take out' decision if it's introduced at the wrong point in their ordering process!

I do have some as I already have oak furniture, but I just object to always being pushed to buy more.
We are currently in dispute with Oakfurnitureland. They delivered damaged goods...we are now currently jumping through hoops to get a solution.I have cancelled the follow up order as I won't take the chance with them, ever again.
We are currently a very hefty sum out of pocket and i'm sure they will hold on to it for as long as legally possible.

Good luck with them, their sales are good, their customer service is rank. Just a wee heads up. Hopefully things will be okay for you...
The store people hate doing it, they are made to do it.

Ha ha! Totally agree, it's what we call 'reading from the card' if you deviate in anyway from what's on their printed card to ask you it throws them.

Oh thanks Kylesmum, I will bear that in mind.

Wolfgang, yes I know, it's not the staffs fault, my son used to work in a Post Office and they would get into trouble if they didn't push and they had targets to meet. That's why I always reply politely even tho I'm screaming inside.

I blame the Companies
It's an unfortunate thing people in Retail have to do - add-on sales. A lot of Companies are more bothered about add-on sales percentages than Money through the Tills.

I've had to do it. Buying a pair of Running Shoes? Have you thought about Waterproof Spray or a spray-in Deodoriser? We've just got a new range in that matches the colours of your Trainers nicely. I'll just pop these behind the Till for you and point you in the right direction.
I was in a bad mood when I called in at a Costa Coffee last week. The conversation went something like this.
Me: Can I have a medium cappucino please.
Barista: Would you like to make that a large one?
Me: (still being polite) No thanks...I want a medium
Barista: Would you like a cake with that?
Me: Do I look or sound like an idiot?
Barista: Erm....no...
Me: Do you think I am incapable of ordering a cake if I wanted one?
Barista: Erm....no...
Me: Right then, a medium cappucino with NO cake thank you.

Just before I left I did apologise to the young man. I know they are told to do this, but it drives me insane.
