you u is wrong - defn is skullcap. 4 letter synonym (unusual) for dainty with 3 letter synonym for bunch inside ( again never heard it in that context)
Some very odd clues in here today??

Can anyone explain the title without giving the game away? Gentle hint perhaps?

Perhaps it is the third definition of the title word in Chambers, which would appear to be similar to the Chambers definition of the unusual common noun that corresponds to the second part of our protagonist's name. A bit tenuous though.

and I couldn't believe it was set by Dumpynose as it was so out
of character.

Agree with the comments that it is Undumpynoselike but, as others have said, it is redolent of childhood and enlarges our knowledge and vocabulary.

It's a tough one but am almost there; 2d has me foxed - Athletic irrational swimmer getting tipsy (7, three words). Any hints would be welcome.

It's hard to come up with a hint. The answer is a very old-fashioned term. The three words break 1,3,3. Hope this is enough and not too much help.
