If the children are back home in Poland it would seem sensible to pay their local rates, the £18.
Very good of Clegg to highlight it but as ever one can't help feeling that he's making Farage's arguments for him.
It's strange though. When my daughter went to live with her dad in Ireland, in full time school, I phone CA to inform them and they said I wasn't entitled to have it (fair enough) even though I had to pay maintenance.

So why can the other nationalities receive it?
ummm, could her dad claim it from the Irish government?
Don't know...it's not something I/we looked into. I just asked out of curiosity.

Surely the other parent in Poland can claim in their own country.
Ummm, my guess is that your child's dad was claiming child benefit (currently 130 euros per month, per child) and child benefit can only be claimed from one country.

Not at the time I spoke to them he wasn't.

I doubt he ever claimed tbh...

So how do they know if the parents back in Poland are not claiming it?
If they are working, and paying tax the same as everyone else, then they should get the same benefits.
No. If their children are in a different country they should not have welfare from this one for them at all. Not even the rate they should be getting from the country they are in. The other country is the one with the welfare responsibility for those within their borders.
old geezer I agree with you
^^^ So do I .
Me, too.

Yes, I think OG has got it right!
This is the situation if a UK Citizen goes to work abroad, just for info of course.

no

Not included in the OP though!

Based on mamya's 1806 post they should get £18 rather than £80's
If they are working and paying taxes and NI, then why shouldn't they get the Child Benefit ?

Heres another question. Should the parents of British people who have been on the dole for years, despite there being jobs available to take, have Child Benefit ? These people are not contributing the system and some of them may never have contributed...is it fair that they are able to claim Child Benefit ?
How do they check the children actually exist?
exactly TTG
