Help please. 10d Choose (8). The "tense" of the clue suggests select, but that can't be right because that would only be six letters

Nominate? Delegate?
appoints?
Do you have any letters please? There will be other synonyms, and perhaps some with 8 letters
I think it might be selected.
selected is the wrong tense though.
Unless someone has done this crossword we can't help much until we know some of the letter pattern

Sorry, my across answers are (s?l?c?e?) Position, rank gives me Status, Say 'th' for 's' gives me Lisp, Swiss-style house gives me Chalet, Ruler of a wide domain gives me Emperor.
Selected seems to be it then. Maybe the clue was meant to say CHOSE
Agree with Margo. Perhaps the clue should be chose?
Factor fiction - I hadn't actually done it but have the paper in front of me and have put in the across clues which gives s?l?c?e?, so can only assume that what it is although the tense is wrong

Thanks to all who replied. I think I had a senior moment when I did this crossword I have looked at it again and it does actually say chose. Sorry to have wasted peoples time.
It's easily done- you weren't the only one on this thread who had the paper but misread the clue
If you mean me ff I didn't actually look at the clue in the paper just accepted what Margaret had given and quickly worked the across clues
