Silly old woman, best ignored!

she's 77. People did say things like that 60 years ago and she probably picked it up then. (In fact she seems to have admitted as much.) Twenty-year-old voters may not be impressed enough to re-elect her, and that's the risk councillors always take when they don't think before they speak, or fail to move with the times.
silly woman.
Stupid yes, but I see we have the usual crowd jumping up and down pity they dont jump up and down about the planning she was trying to highlight.
Not particularly appropriate these days, and in view of the comment she made before she said it, I think she knew she was being controversial.

On another tack - good for her still being an active councillor at 77.
What is appropiate these days. Those in public life from all parties seem to fall foul of things that are blown out of all proportion.
Seems that everyone has to get offended about something or be offended on behalf of someone else.

Question Author
so you think this is all blown out of proportion, rape isn't remotely funny, i can't understand why she said it, couldn't she think of something else, intelligent and forthright to put her point across, without resorting to an age old sexist comment
Why is it sexist emm?
Question Author
i have heard that from blokes, lie back and think of England sort of bull, not remotely funny.
Yes but making a comment about rape isn't sexist.
Question Author
in my world it has been, generally levelled by blokes, against their female colleagues
That's a saying, not the act.
No one has said it is emmie.

She is 77 made an off the cuff comment when discussing a topic far from sexual assult.

No need for all the pjblicity. Told it was ill advised yes, but pushed to resign no.
Question Author
i wonder if she thought she was being clever, i wouldn't use that term not ever, the countryside may well be being paved over, but there are other ways to fight against that,
She wasn't trying to be funny though and has realised her folly in hindsight. I honestly don't think it's such a terrible thing to say, even the police might say it 's the safest course of action rather than trying fight off a stronger physical attack.
Question Author
prudie, most rapists don't care about their victim, nor do they care what the police think, many occur within marriage, others are known to them, it doesn't make it any less of an idiot comment -
she realised her mistake -
Question Author
i would give her a swift kick, then tell her to resign

A Tory councillor has apologised after likening housing development to a sex attack, saying "when rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it" during a council meeting.
I'm sorry but her comment is no worse than you calling it sexist. To intimate that male rape either doesn't occur or is a lesser crime could be offensive to men ergo, sexist in itself.

Question Author
