I'm thinking of buying a hand-held one to save me taking out the big one to clean the car or for cleaning up a few crumbs etc. Been googling but would appreciate some advice from someone who has one.Thank you.

I bought this one recently - the centre part unclips to become a hand-held. I find it really good. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/380858680287?hlpht=true&ops=true&viphx=1&lpid=95&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&;ff13=80&ff14=95 (It's cheaper in Argos)
IMO hand held vacuum cleaners don't have the suction power of either upright or cylinder models. If you have a cylinder model it's quite easy to stretch it out to the car, and it will do a god job too.
We have a Vax Gator cordless - works well for small pickups. Around £30 from Amazon.
I agree with BlueToffee for power and suction, but for instant use eg, spill in the kitchen, a cordless is very convenient and works OK.

Thank you all for your advice-will have a think about it.
BlueToffee,I've been using my cylinder model but I just thought a hand-held one would be handier !! I'm getting lazy in my old age lol Thanks again

Just noticed the related posts re hand-held vacuums.
I'd recommend the Hoover Jovis Turbo Power, which, contrary to what others have said regarding handheld vacuum cleaners, is quite powerful with its 4 power settings, just so long as you remember to empty it after each time you use it. I bought mine about a year ago from Argos and find it saves getting the big hoover out when the place needs a quick going over. I don't have a car but my nephew often uses it to clean his car and is also impressed by its power. Mine is not the model for hoovering up liquids or spills, although one is available (I think it's about a tenner more than the model I have).
Make sure it is safe
The hoover Dustette seems to be a bit of kicker ....

sorry quinie I thought you were a man....
I was er giving gender specific advice
sorry about that
We've got a Dyson which we've had about 5 years. It's really good but the charge on it only lasts about 3 minutes so I find I can do 3/4 of the car and then have to wait a bit for it to re-charge and do the rest. I assume the newer ones are better now.
i bought one and it was a waste of money, they don't have the power, suction of the conventional hoover.

Peter Pedant, all is forgiven -my OH doesn't do hoovering so he's safe lol My user name quinie is Doric for girl-I was often called that being the only girl in a family of boys (or loons, loonies in Doric)-strange dialect eh?
