To maketh? Does it really say that...?
Question Author
Thanks for reply Mark Rae. Yes it does. 22a. Open to maketh sharp? (6). H?N???. I wonder if the answer is HONEST - Hones is tho sharpen but the "T" at the end puzzles me.
Weird. Obviously, "to maketh" isn't correct English, maketh simply being the mediaeval form of the third person singular of the verb "to make", e.g. "She maketh my day".
Question Author
Agreed! Very weird. I still think it is Honest (i.e. Open) and I need the last letter to be a T to make sense of the Wordfinder answer which I think is Spitting Image. So is the open to referring to the first letter of "TO". and "Hones" is maketh sharp. I remain puzzled!
Question Author
Maybe the clue should read Open to to maketh sharp?
wordfinder is SPITTING IMAGE
Question Author
Thanks Baldric.
> Maybe the clue should read Open to to maketh sharp?

How would that make it grammatical?
Question Author
It wouldn't. I think I will just answer the clue as honest and chalk up the clue as a bad one or a typesetting error. Thanks for your time and trouble.
Honest is correct
Hone is to make sharp - I hone, thou HONEST, he hones...
Honest
honest
