Sat Times Cryptic No.977 22dn and 16 ac

Can someone please explain?
16ac- English worker holding up Bishop to be heretical (6) . It must be "errant" but where does the "rr" come from?
22dn- He and I are two live wires(8). This looks like elements but I'm unsure of the reasoning.
