The Indians are NaVajos,
And 14d is Upminster.
14a Upminster ?
13a Bread pud (pudding) ?
14d Upminster - from the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography -

Pelly, Sir Henry Bertram (1867–1942), naval officer, was born on 9 September 1867 in Upminster, Essex, the sixth of seven sons of Richard Wilson Pelly (1814–1890), captain, Royal Navy, and his wife, Katherine Jane (d. 1901), youngest daughter of John Gurney Fry of Hale End, Essex.
13a Bread sop? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sop
2a would query this clue as the last Inca ruler was killed in the 14th century (Tupac Amaru 1572).

Is this the correct wording ?? ("incans 5 union")
Hi lashley - I've just found the grid for this puzzle & if I may, I'll point out that 1a is 'Heenan', giving you an 'E', not a 'U'

http://books.google.c...erer%E2%80%99&f=false

This hasn't got me any closer to the answer to 2d - the clue to which reads -

Inca ___, 15th-century emperor of the Incans (5)
My apologies, lashley - upon further reading of that link I see that it's a "John Heenan" mentioned, not a "Fred" as stated in the clue.

However, Wikipedia throws up a "Fred Fulton" (giving you back the 'U'), covering the dates in the clue, but he was known as "The Rochester Plasterer".

For others, the clue for 1a is -

Fred ___ (1891-1973), heavyweight boxer known as the ‘Sapulpa Plasterer’ (6)

I am quite confused at this point...

many thanks-the inca is now U?C?N
help=last one!
lashley - with respect, I believe that the answer to 9a is - 'Finished', giving the 3rd letter of 2d as 'I'

For others, the clue is -

'It is ___’ – English translation of the Vulgate Consummatum est (John,
19:30) (8)
Hi again! - 'Inca Urcon'

Found a reference, though I'll swear up & down this wasn't showing last night!

After also googling, L-i-K,I find the following

Extract from ^

The earliest date that can be confidently assigned to Inca dynastic history is 1438, when Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui, a son of Viracocha Inca, usurped the throne from his brother Inca Urcon.
