I have put REFERENDA for 14d but Oxford English Dictionary says referendums is the correct plural, but what do they know?

I agree Shooty, that's what Ihave entered. My Latin master would have agreed with our answer, not with OED.

Quite a few words lately have not appeared in the OED. I think it was LIE-IN-KING that showed me a link in OED that me or Shoota could not access. It is my belief that to get the full version of the OED, you have to subscribe. therefore, us non-scribers will not get its full potential with the FREE online version. Hence, you should have a couple of back-up Dicts in your bookmarks.
