There aren't any princesses either! In any case, the Jack - or knave - was never intended to represent the SON of the king and queen but simply their SERVANT.

In a pack of French playing cards the Jack is denoted by the letter V, signifying Valet (servant). Also, the Queen is represented by the letter D, signifying Dame (lady)
