If you are thinking of "Elementary my dear Watson", it is attributed to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes.

However, the phrase never appears in the works of Arthur Conan Doyle and it is just an urban myth that Holmes ever said this.

That's true, but not in the context of this question. "Elementary my dear watson" came from the Basil Rathbone Holmes films in the 40's.
