Can i interchangeably use the three words place, shop and map in the following sentence?


He or It is all over the place/shop/map.

I think so, but I have not actually heard 'map' used in this sense before. All the same, I think its meaning would be clear enough in context.

I never hear "all over the shop" (in the US)


"All over the place" could be more literal. For example: "My sons leave dirty socks all over the place."


"All over the map" is usually more metaphorical. For example "American music preferences are all over the map" -- meaning there is a lot of variety. I would not use that phrase to talk about my sons' socks.
