I've just received a message on Facebook from someone I went to school with about 60yrs ago! It says he invites me to Messenger. Sending messages is fast and more fun on messenger. Get a link sent to your phone to install the app.
The thing is, my phone is very old and I wouldn't think you can't have apps on it and even if you can, I wouldn't have a clue how to do that. What does it mean though? Are you sending messages from phone to phone? Many thanks.

I've had these messages and it seems they weren't sent by a friend. Seems to be spam advertising.

It does send messages phone to phone, phone to pc, or pc to pc
Messenger is a way to contact someone privately using the Facebook platform.

It's definitely someone I used to know hc but can't think why he would want to be sending me messages and he can't send them to my phone as it doesn't have the internet on it.
Yes it's a bit like texting but privately through facebook contacts only, it's free and if you can run facebook on your phone you should be able to ruin messenger. I use it a lot.
run not ruin lol

I thought that Zacs but I don't go on Facebook very often, so if he sends a message, it could be sitting there for a week before I see it. It's probably more suited to those who use their phone often and can have apps on it.Should I just ignore it?
It's possible he has just started using it and it has invited his freinds through facebook to use it.
I thought you got it through facebook not on your phone?

Thanks for your answers, I understand now why people would use it, but it isn't going to be any good to me.
I've had quite a few invites, I just ignore and send and receive messages in the usual way.

Thanks Mamya. I will just reply to his invite and tell him it's not for me.
I would, you can still message normally.
Barsel, the message I got was supposed to be from a FB friend who I'm in regular contact with on FB. She was annoyed because she doesn't use Messenger, either
