Morning!

I'm trying to help someone look for a television which has a built in digital recorder.

The recorder needs to be able to record two different programmes as well as watching a different one.

Built in smartTV stuff like iPlayer and ITVHub would be great, especially if it can be viewed additionally to recording.

Hoping to create an easier system for this person to record/watch etc through one remote control. We've been down the universal control route before, and that's not really helped. She's already got a box set up, so this would be to replace that and the TV.

All thoughts/help welcome!

I saw your question yesterday but couldn't help with a tv that has this all built in. However, my BT Youview box can record two programmes while I watch another and, is controlled via one remote. Maybe moving to BT Youview is the answer.
Virgin Tivo does the same and if you are watching a programme previously recorded you can record three at the same time.

Can you watch a third, live channel?

It does seem from my own searching that "built in" isn't the answer.

BT was briefly explored, but not by me. I'll have to find out why they didn't go for it.

We have one of these, it will record two programs at the same time and you can watch a third programme live if it is on one of the two mutiplexes being recorded - the EPG shows available channels. These are now obsolete but you may be able to source one second hand.
Hi Ed

As Danny mentions, we have a Virgin Tevo box and can record 3 programmes on any station at any one time.....that is, programmes that are LIVE and being shown now......if you watch any of your recorded stuff on MY SHOWS you can still record the 3 live programmes at the same time...Catch up and BBC iplayer, ITV hub, 4OD, 5 etc can be watched while all 3 recording too...and you can watch any of your 3 choices as your recording them too....

Best way to find out what's available would include going to specialist TV Audio Visual shops such as Richer Sounds or Curry's......ask a specialist what's currently available.....

Good luck, Ed :-)

^^^advise Richer Sounds. Avoid Currys....like proverbial plague.
Know what you mean, gingejbee.....I wouldn't normally recommend Curry's as it seems some branches employ staff who haven't a clue what they are talking about.........by my experience I go to three branches.... Worthing, Brighton and Chichester and all have knowledgeable staff.....so might be regional problem.....Richer Sounds is a better option as they advise well.
Richer Sounds are giving 6 years warranty at the moment, Curry's 1 year!!
And Curry's are dearer. To be kept in mind when your colleague is ready to buy.
