Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

This quiz gives you the English you need to find the equivalent word(s) in Doric
The one I need is ' Female undergarments' in Doric
I am a native speaker , so know 'Semmit' is vest - but not particularly female.

Thought of 'knickers' - but that's not just Doric!
Any suggestions appreciated . Thanks!!

Yes I have ,thanks, nothing there , and tried other Doric sites too. This can't be a common word!

My Gran used to call them her 'coats' which I thought was probably short for 'petticoats'....but it may not have been.

Some suggestions here...Barrie looks promising, but it is not a word I have ever heard.

Gran also had a chemise and, of course, stays.

Thank you ladyalex, - I had forgotten about stays..... Also never heard of Barrie so might put both in and push my luck! Any of the words suggested would fit ' undergarments' - the question is quite broad so just depends what setter has in mind.

Would like to know the answer, if you don't mind putting it up.

Quizzes like these can be a bit of a minefield, as often there are several answers to the same question and you have to be a mindreader to guess the one the setter has in mind.

I was always given to understand that Doric was a dialect from the Aberdeen area, yet I remember words like chemise and semmit being used in NE England.

Ladyalex- I will put up answer once I get quiz back ( c/d 1/6) check back this thread after that , and you are right Doric is specific to Aberdeen area - though it shares some words with normal Scots tongue. Can't explain why these words would be used in England other than the obvious - Scots moving over the border!

I've not heard of 'kwite', but it sounds a bit like my Gran's 'coat'....

When do we get the answers to this quiz? I'm really interested to know the answer.

FAO ladyalex-I put stays,Kwite and Barrie all in for female undergarments and the only one that was scored out was Barrie .
I got 27 out of 30 and won a £5 !
