Why are some people so mean spirited?
Just been to the cinema and popped into the off license on the way home. The staff in the shop were complaining about a kid outside who was collecting a "penny for the guy". For Gods sakes, havn't they done the same thing when they were kids? I came out and gave the kid a pound, its hardly going to break the bank! My ex was like that as well. Would never tip a taxi driver or give a kid a few pence for his guy or put spare change into a charity box....used to drive me nuts, I hate meaness.
Theres more than enough in life for everyone if we share a little with others
(or is this the drink talking, lol)

Might be because he's a bit early. One week before 5th Nov used to be the norm.
Hi Nailit, agreed I loathe mean people
Read once that you never get poorer by giving. Thought it was a strange statement, but do you know what - I haven't.
Maybe they would rather give their hard earned money to more worthy causes?

JD I thought that myself but it is certainly an enterprising kid who gets in there first...
Psybbo, I know that from personal experience ;-)
Could also be because it is pure begging. Not like they offer anything for the payment. Never known one happy to allow me to take away the guy I just bought for a penny despite the agreed deal.

//Read once that you never get poorer by giving.// 100% agreed
//Maybe they would rather give their hard earned money to more worthy causes?// a kid just wanting a bit of sweet money? Not going to break the bank is it?
As JD said, it is a little early; however, I can't see why they were complaining. Commenting upon it perhaps, but not complaining.

LOL OG
What would you have said if he'd been carol singing☺
Tis a little early, Nailit....but I'd have given them a few bob too......just for making me smile...... :-)
And yes....miserable, mean spirited people would head my list for wax effigy pin sticking.....if I did such a thing.... ;-)
If you want to know the epitome of meanness, see my post @19:15 on this thread:

It might not break the bank for some but not everyone can afford to give money to charity and if they do, they would rather give to one that is worthwhile
Not everyone agrees what is a worthy cause
Give your money where you want nailit
The drink is for once saying the right thing
Carol, singing!...Strange name for a guy.

They were complaining because he was asking their customers coming into the shop. What is wrong with people that they resent a kid asking for a few pence for a bit of sweet money? For Gods sakes why is the human race so mean?
People in Stoke are very 'funny', Nailit. That's the way it goes.

I don't give to beggars, which is all 'Penny for the Guy' is, and also as a pet owner I loathe Fireworks. I do however give to both the RNLI and British Legion on a monthly basis, and there are a couple of others who get a Quid if I see a collecting tin, Sally Army is one. As for tipping, if I get good service I tip, simplesssss!
If that qualifies me as mean, well Tough!!!!!
So what was the problem then - the fact that the kid was asking for money outside the shop or his choice of "charity"?
'salright, Baldric......when I'm stalking I drop in an extra quid.....from the bearded chap in the funny shirt.....I tell them...... :-)
