On AnswerBank we read many posts criticising our police officers etc.

But we hear very little praises for them, ever though when they don their uniforms and go out to work on our behalf, that day could be their last, as in this very sad case.

If ever a photograph made one sad, it has got to be this one of a once happy family.

My condolences go out to the beautiful family he has sadly left behind and may PC David Phillips rest in peace.

I agree with your expression of sympathy and support for this officers family, AOG.
So do I.
// More than 150 people have died in police-related car accidents since 2004, including 79 during chases.

Officers admitted causing 3,357 crashes last year – an average of more than 64 a week. //

Sadly, we are only hearing of this incident because a member of the police was killed, but carnage is quite regular, and far too high.

I saw a police chase earlier this year and it was a wonder that no one was killed. I was fearful when the stolen car and pursuing police cars passed by me at great speed. The stolen car crashed a couple of miles up the road and was wrecked beyond repair. It was an old hatchback, so was probably not worth much anyway. I couldn't help wonder if it was worth putting the public and police at risk for a stolen item that was worth less than an iPhone. A fiend had her laptop stolen from a cafe, and the police just gave her a crime number and that was that. These high speed chases on public roads put lives at risk (usually the thieves, but sometimes the public and police) and a rethink is needed.

I cannot remember the last time you criticised our police officers AOG but if you say you have done so then you have. [ O God, according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. etc etc]

dive buddy,

Fill enough, that is exactly what happened.
My condolences go as well AOG. Lets hope the criminal fraternity in Liverpool hand this murderer in.
AOG - //On AnswerBank we read many posts criticising our police officers etc.

I cannot especially recall any particular condemnation of the police, but from my experience of AB, any that is offered will be in the context of a specific incident.

However, I must agree with your condolences, and would wish to add mine to them.

Those beautiful girls, whom the report confirms were 'daddy's girls' are left without their daddy, and that is a tragedy that does not bear thinking about.
Terribly sad - RIP.

Hope the killers are caught very soon.
aog - sorry but your link doesn't go to the story, I hope you don't mind if I add this? -

It's very sad indeed, RIP PC Phillips.
Terrible thing to happen to a happy loving family! Hope they get who,s responsible very soon. My heart goes out to them all.
Gromit - Any accidents that occur during a police chase is 100% fault of the criminal they are perusing. If they had stopped when ordered then there would be no casualties. However I might add,but if they crash and kill themselves with no-one else involved then that is a bonus in my book.

Don't you hold an ounce of compassion?

Why do you constantly find the need to research statistics to try and prove your point?

Perfectly in order to carry that out in general debates, but on a thread such as this????????
^^^That was the point I made AoG in my post that was removed.
Words fail me.
It is also pertinent to point out that today is the 30th anniversary of my friend Keith Blakelock's murder.
I wonder now why I bothered or 26 years...
My father was a police officer and I KNOW what dangers they faced and what sh* t they have to put up with from certain lowlife members of the public. RIP for this officer and my condolences to his family and colleagues.
Dave???
I'm hoping that's a badly written reply from Dave.
There has been some movement this afternoon ::::
