Evening.

Well I took all your advice onboard and I would like to apologise for some of my comments.

I tried the bulldozer method and that worked a treat, even the the point I actually knocked someone over.

I also tried the 'stand there and wait' method and they did just walk around me then call me a gay boy.

I did the 'excuse me lads' and funnily enough they moved, however I didn't stop to ask them. This only happen 1 out of 3 times though.

So I suppose if you need to get to A to B really quickly just ignore them as they are ignoring you and keep on going. Watch out for the skittle effect though as you may need to do a bit of shoulder turning.

All in all I'm rather happy with the results and shall no longer be walking into the road and getting squished.

I'm sure the local BMW driver will be delighted with that!

PP: You only need to walk down the street once between 12:30 and 13:30 to get the stats I did. There's a school and a college near by.

If you really are capable of doing CP I'm reasonably sure you can shift the odd 11 year old school child!
I have never had a kid not move if I say 'excuse me'....

Baldric: Close Protection isn't about being violent or heavy handed, it's about avoiding confrontation and trying defuse the situation - this is a MASSIVE misconception people seem to have with CPO's.

You say bodyguard and people think that you resolve issues by throwing your weight about, you don't.
You need to develop a 'look', it works on children of all ages and only needs to be used sparingly.

I'm very well aware of the guidelines Diz, probably far more so than yourself.
Question Author
Baldric: If you have an issue with me then just air it.

Diz, I don't have an issue with you, but when it comes to Close Protection I think you may still have a lot to take on board, speaking as an ex RM who has worked in a lot of active zones including Central London for a year or two.

Baldric:

//If you really are capable of doing CP I'm reasonably sure you can shift the odd 11 year old school child!//

How is that relevant to being a CPO? Given the fact that you know I can't use violence. Technically anyone can move an 11 year old school child.

//I'm very well aware of the guidelines Diz, probably far more so than yourself.//

If you are aware of the guidelines then why say what you did? and then say that you 'probably know more than me'?

I don't mind you knowing more than me, a lot of people know more than me, however I haven't said anything to suggest that I'm wrong. I only said there was a misconception because I wasn't aware you knew the 'SIA regulations and law' as your second comment on the thread suggested so.

It's just a direct attack for absolutely no reason what so ever.

I have so much respect for the RM's and I don't have the experience you do however I have worked hard to pay and get through the training. I take a lot of pride in what I do, especially with the dog rescue. I don't intentionally try and upset anyone - life really is too short for that.

Baldric I actually like you, I've spent hours going through threads and seeing how much you help. Maybe in 20 years time I might have the physical experience of a CPO as well.

Diz, hopefully we're not going to fall out, I have an immense amount of respect for what you have achieved, maybe not always expressed to best advantage, but I'm on your side, you're doing great!
Question Author
Baldric: Thank you, and I'd like to apologise for being a bit full on and I suppose 'c0cky'. I know that I wouldn't stand a chance as a CPO right now because I don't have that experience. I don't mind starting at the bottom and working as a security guard for a bit and try and get in with a company. It's one of those jobs, as you know yourself, that experience really is important of qualification because it is life and death.

You've cheered me up because I really didn't want to fall out with you. :)

I'm now waiting for someone to type: "get a room".

Come on Diz, let's get a room ,
Ok ?
I'd join the two of you and never walk alone :-)

Look a Camerons close protection squad from a couple of weeks back with the Jogger, that's not hard to improve upon!
'' I actually knocked someone over '' well done ?
