Ummmm's Burial Plot Got Me Thinking.

MrG was thirteen when his dad died. His mum bought a three person plot in a now full cemetery for dad, herself and MrG....this always bothered MrG....he hated going with his mum to put flowers on the grave.....
I'd forgotten about this and MrG is buried in a double plot in the new cemetery......the plan being for me to join him.

But....I don't like the new cemetery......for one thing it's noisy....so I've decided on the green burial ground not far from here.....I've sussed out the land so I know sort of where I'll end up.....

Would knowing exactly where you were going to be buried bother you like it did MrG when he thought he'd be in the old cemetery?.....

Or would you, like me, want to know where you'll be and what will be around you?.....x

can't say i have thought of it.
I know exactly where I'll be and have chosen a lovely spot.

It's quite comforting, really.
Not going to be buried, cremated and scattered on the beaches of Islay. Hubby wants the same.
His mother (catholic) couldn't bury her husband in the church cemetery as he was not of the faith so got him buried in the council cemetery. For years she says she can't wait to meet him in the after life as he was her soul mate. But we have now discovered she has spent a considerable amount of money on a plot in the church cemetery!! Her sons are a little miffed that she doesn't want to be with their dad!
Ever come across the Carmichael family in Islay? One of them was the manager of a distillery there and his sister, Maggie, flew over to become a nurse on the Mainland back in the 60's. She survived the Nuneaton Train Crash in 1975.
In my family we cremate. Once the soul has left, the body is just a big nothing.
Simple BBQ for me or
'when I die don't bury me at all,
Just pickle my bones in alcohol'

old Tommy Atkins song.
That's way before my time Dinpal
That is correct IMO Woofgang. The body is a bag of bones for disposal after the soul has departed it.

Have left instructions not to waste money on a 'posh' burial, take the cheapest cremation plan going, I think they call them 'Back Door Cremations'
Once I'm gone, that's all Folks, I will have no further interest.
Anything else is not my choice.
Can anyone point me in the direction of Ummm's burial plot thread?
We set up a funeral plan some 15 years ago after my stroke which included a double burial plot (£95.00p) a nice little spot near a car park so any visitors we eventually get won't have too far to walk.I know it won't make any difference when your dead but somehow it seems quite comforting to know where you are going to be planted

I'm not too keen on cremation.....seems so final....though I've read today of a girl who's creating artwork with her uncle's ashes.....?

I prefer the thought of going into the earth in a lovely place.... well I'm not overjoyed at the thought.......but of the options it's the one I choose.....x
I bought a double plot when my Husband died, so I know where I am to lie.

Bad news gness, death is kinda final!
237 - Check Petal's 'Sisters' thread in Body & Soul for Ummmm's mention.
What have worms ever done for me?
Don't think about it or want to think about it. Hate the thought
Thank you Mamya
When my dad died (in Dundee) I had a cremation planned (he had not expressed any preference and my mum had been cremated). However, my daughter kicked up such a fuss that we ended up buying a plot in a fairly new cemetery. Daughter now lives 100 miles away and does she ever visit? She also bought a plot for her dad (my ex) in Aberdeen so she will end up owning two plots of land. I'm going to be cremated and my ashes scattered and this is written down in my will.
I know where I will be, with people I loved, what more could one want ;-)
