David, in the USA it has become an everyday word. But I agree with you.
I learnt how to be treated by the way my dad treated my mum. Even after they split up he had nothing but praise for her. He always took us shopping on her birthday and mothers day.

Seriously though, this guy sounds like he can't let go, move on and leave his ex wife to move on. It's bordering on stalking, imo, unless she is encouraging him. Perhaps they're one of those couples that should really be together. (pure conjecture, I know)
I would have thought one could teach one's offspring to treat others well without teaching them folk have to continue interacting with someone as if they were still their spouse when the two no longer are and have independent lives. I think that there is some muddled thinking/justification there. Not that it's such a bad thing, just not ideal.
