I booked a cottage in South Wales. I have just heard from the booking organisation that the booking cannot be honoured. Guess what the (nameless and faceless) organisation have offered instead? A "chalet" 20 miles from here. I am speechless.

Apart from the fact that I am not spending the best part of 600 quid to stay 20 miles from home the "suggested alternative" lacks areas of outstanding natural beauty, coastline, mountains and frankly, "welshness".

***. Anyway, what alternatives have you been offered? Please make me laugh, god knows I need one.

stay welshpool - eighteenth century coaching inn at the bottom o the main street , or Lake Vronwy - that may be Fronwy
good hotel there
When Nectar were offering a much hyped "treats" day, I applied for a free spa day in a localish hotel. What I got was an afternoon pass for a hotel gym which was 85 miles away. There was a big moan about it on the internet and one person who had applied for the spa got a free visit (for one) to the Thames barrier visitor centre.
God how annoying barmaid!! Not quite the same but I once ordered rubber gloves on my Tesco home delivery. When the driver arrived he said there was a substitution - they'd replaced rubber gloves with condoms!!
My daughter got a home delivery from Asda and the toilet rolls were missing...as a substitute they sent clingfilm!
Smowball - that's better than gloves for condoms...

Barmaid, sorry about your experience & the fact that I have nothing to offer along those lines that might lift your spirits :-(

Well SJ, Smow and Cupid you have all made me laugh. I cant give any one of you best answer because they are all very very funny.

Cant do a hotel PP because of number 1 step son. Cant face a tent either.

I just spoke to the "nameless faceless" organisation - to be fair, she did think that their suggested alternative was a bit of a P*** take once I had explained the geography. (She is from Middlesbrough but spoke with an Australian accent - she did accept she could tell me the geography of Australia but not the UK).

Oh well, what doesnt kill you makes you stronger........
Barmaid you can have my shed in bonnie Scotland for £300 ..what a bargain !!
Classic Cottages at Helston, Barmaid, give them a call and see if they have anything on their books - mainly southwest but they do have some welsh ones, I believe. Very good company, an old friend of mine, Anna Gibson, used to be one of their ops managers......explain the situation to them.....
Google caravans on farms. I've holidayed in one in Wales and one in Cornwall. They're usually single units in secluded places.
Barmaid....from your recent post in Travel, I presume that you were going to be staying near Fishguard.

If you can get your money refunded, there should be plenty of availability in the same area of West Wales with other companies, as long as you leave it until after the B/H.

The area is well worth fighting for !

Let us know how you get on !

And breathe........

Well update is Mr BM (after much foot stamping and shouting) found another cottage. Not strictly in the area we wanted but manageable. I have booked and paid for it (and told nameless faceless company to pay pack initial fee forthwith "there might be a cancellation charge" "no there bloody well will NOT"). I have spoken to the management company of new accommodation who are HUMAN BEINGS. Wish I had just gone direct to start with. We have had to move holiday forwards by one day, so it means I shall have to take work with me. But hey ho, No 1 stepson gets his holiday irrespective of the fact that evil stepmother has to work. Evil stepmother quite likes the idea of being left alone in nice rural cottage with *** all internet and a crate of wine to "work" with and only a short walk to nearest village for pubington and localism ;)
Is this new place still in West Wales Barmaid ?
well done Barmaid.....
Why nameless - name and shame - unless its nudists united - just joking

3 sites there Barmaid that may help. Don't let you experience with the people who let you down put you off Wales. It is a great place to visit and indeed to live. Don't ignore North Wales, there are some stunning locations, that are brilliant even in the winter.
Mid or North Wales, much more mountainous and Welsh!
Ahh well done. Your post ref new booking was not there as I was looking online and posting. Have a great holiday.
Well done Barmaid. Did you tell them what your job is? Bet they wouldn't have tried it on if they had known before who they were dealing with!
Sue the pants off them to teach them a lesson if you don't get a full refund!
Go iawn Cymru yma Ratters.
