After you paste your link. Hit return/enter, go to a new line then type your message.
If you have typed a message first, hit return/enter, go to a new line paste your link. If you wish to add more, once again, start a new line.
Your link must "stand alone".
Hope this helps.

thanks 1ozzy i'm obviously doing something stupid as the 'pastes' are coming out but not in red, i've tried before and after typing any text and hitting enter as you say but still not working ive followed your directions to the letter. me and compters are not meant to be together.
It looks like you didn't get the whole link, Paul. If you look at what you pasted and what Chris pasted, some of yours is missing.
It doesn't turn red until after you press submit, so try it and see if it works
Paul a visual check, to make sure you have the whole thing highlighted, as pixie said. If not, it won't work. Keep at it mate, you'll get it right.
You must not forget the http:// or https://
...and 1ozzy's should solve it but you need to get the full address includng any /

sorry for not getting back earlier, when you say about putting in http:// do you have to physically type this part in as sometimes it seems to appear in the address bar and sometimes it doesn't
I have copied the address of this page and as you can see you don't need the http bit

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Technology/Computers/Question1454582.html
It adds it automatically.

The link doesn't change colour until you pressed submit and posted it
Apologies for not seeing your post earlier, Paul1763.

I've already answered it on the other thread anyway (as other have done above) but, just for clarity, it's the FULL web address (INCLUDING the 'http' bit) that you need to include.

With most (possibly all?) browsers on a Windows PC, right-clicking in the address field for the relevant website will automatically copy the FULL address (even though the 'http' bit isn't actually displayed in the address bar) but it's possible that it might be different on other devices (such as an Android tablet or an iPad).

The link won't turn red until after you've clicked 'Submit'.

If you put something directly in front of 'http' (like the quote mark I've just used), AB's server won't spot it as a link. (Compare that with OG's post at 0720, where AB's server has tried to create a link even when there isn't one!).

If you put anything directly after a link (such as a full stop), AB's server will think that what you've added is still part of the link, thus invalidating it.

So it's best to give the link a line on its own (as 1ozzy did at 0627).
Also compare with your flywheel post where it wasn't added automatically.
