Pity that British Steel (Port Talbot) ain't there to provide the steel any more.Another industry that Wales lost.
R-cop....Port Talbot is still producing steel. From the wiki entry for Port Talbot steel works :::

"Port Talbot Steelworks is an integrated steel production plant in Port Talbot, Wales capable of producing nearly 5 million tonnes of steel slab per annum, making it the largest of all three major steel plants in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. The majority of the slab is rolled on-site at Port Talbot and at the Newport Llanwern site to make a variety of steel strip products"

But its not British anymore of course ::::

"In 1967, The Steel Company of Wales was nationalised and absorbed into British Steel, which was subsequently privatised and merged to form Corus Group. Tata Group agreed to purchase all Corus' ordinary shares in March 2007, and the deal was concluded in April 2007. In 2010 it was announced that Corus was to be rebranded to the group name of Tata Steel Europe"

Perhaps you meant Ebbw Vales, which is no more.

TTT...very good news jobwise, if its going to be made here in Wales ! I shall have to start saving up !
I think they might be happier with a flock of sheep and a lorry load of wellies TTT
Aston Martin use Aluminium (and carbon fibre) body panels.

My father worked at the Margam/Abbey plants along with some of my cousins and uncles.Shortly after the BOF plant came in there were mass voluntary redundancies offered and my father who was nearing state pension age took it as did the rest of the clan. They all regrouped at the Ford and Borg- Warner Gearbox plant. I assumed it was due to closures of the rolling mills there.

Assume, makes an "Ass" out of "u" and "me" retro!
God, I bet none of you ever saw men as lazy as used to work in Llanwern steelworks. They laid three quarters of the workforce off and had record production levels the next year.

They were not lazy. They were very industrious in the extreme.whoever bought my parents house in Nottage inherited half of the steel company's assets. The magnificent ornamental garden iron work. The unusual massive car port fabricated from ...err...steel. The turned on lathe stainless steel wine and sherry er "glasses" that were horrible to drink from. No. I won't have it. How else could they earn enough for a pack of fags or a few pints of beer down the rugby club? Busy Bees they were. :-)
R-cop. I'm afraid the Ford plant in Swansea and the Borg-Warner place have both closed ! Your old dad would find it difficult to get a job in heavy industry in South Wales these days although some places like Margam are still going.
