Linking My Laptop To My Tv ?

I have a modern TV but its not one of those "smart" ones. Is there a way that I can link my laptop, to the TV, and then watch the BBC iplayer on a 42" screen, rather than the laptop ?

What cable would I need, and which of the many sockets on the TV will I need to plug it into?

Even better, can it be done by some wireless connection ? ( not keen to have any more cables strung out over my living room floor )

Better still, is there some kind of gismo that I can buy that will link my TV with my broadband router, so that I can "convert" the TV into a smarter TV than it is now. All I really want to do is watch programs on the iplayer...I am not remotely interested in watching films.

I am not keen to take out any more subscriptions though !

Does your laptop have HDMI?
As Talbot says - simplest way is an HDMI cable from your laptop to your TV.

hc4361...thanks. I did see that in a reply to an earlier, similar question, but isn't there a subscription required for ChromeCast ?

Talbot...thanks to you as well ! How ill I know if the laptop has an HDMI socket...what do they look like ? I am not the brainiest when it comes to these sorts of things !
A £10 Now box turns your tv in to a smart tv and will play iPlayer. No subscription, no extra payments unless you want to watch Sky Movies, Sport or premium Sky entertainment channels

BHG....crossed in the post ! Is there a wireless way to do the HDMI thingy, or does it have to be a cable ?
No subscription for ChromeCast
If your TV has an HDMI socket Mickey then just look at your laptop to see if it has an identical socket. HDMI sockets are not "sexed", so the port on the TV will look identical to the one on the laptop.
I don't know of any wireless HDMI adapters but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Thanks everybody...I will have to think about it !
Chromecast and now-tv are ok but it is a bit tiresome navigating them.
A cheap-ish wifi HDMI would be brilliant............I want one!
The Maplin digital video sender won't work from pc to tv.
The GoogleChromecast is a wireless dongle that mirrors what you see on your pc on to your tv.

Well, I appear to have a HDMI port on my laptop and the TV, so I shall order a HDMI cable from ebay tonight, and try that for a start. Its only £6.99, so its got to be worth a try !
You will have to access the display settings of the computer and tell it that younwant to either extend desktop or clone desktop to show on tv.

If you have Sky+HD box you have access to iplayer via it when box is connected to broadband.

There is nothing special about the ones on ebay, haven't you got an Amazon account, mikey?
