I bought a dog from a blacksmith.

When I brought it home, it made a bolt for the door.

It was a dachshund!

Hahaha, classic, that one is getting told to the team at Borneholm Dog Rescue tomorrow!

Don't see where Dachshund comes into it, but the rest is worth a chuckle!
Like it Trixie xx
Don't get the dachshund bit !
The dog made a bold (a run for).

A dachshund (a dash, hound), oh come on people.
*bolt. Oh my days, my typos are bad today.
If you still don't follow then I give up.

Blacksmith/bolt for door, clear as a bell so far!
;-)
So we're suggesting the dachshund bit means nothing. In which case the dog making a bolt for the door must of been a real bolt, which also means he/she can smith. This shouldn't be in jokes, this should be in the news.
I like it.

Almost there Diz,
Bolt (double meaning) not to be taken in the Literal sense.
It's fine in jokes.
I liked it, 2 jokes for the price of 1 :-)
Baldric: I was attempting sarcasm.

Technically the word 'bolt' has 3 meanings not two.

bolt (an object made usually out of metal or plastic which is threaded).
bolt (to run, or to make haste)
bolt (a short, heavy arrow shot from a crossbow), oh how I do like my crossbow :)

As you list it as the second meaning Diz, Double will suffice, the third is superfluous.
Balders - some people ( damned yanks mostly ) pronounce the ch in dachshund. as /dash/

think 'dash' and bolt as in horse....altho dogs can bolt as well I think

and Mitford sisters - wasnt one of them called 'The Bolter' ?

.

we havent had: he bolted the door and his food... [Dickens]
Baldric: I suppose.

What the Dickens are you talking about PP,?
;-)
At least it didn't make a spring for your seat.
Bolton Wanderers supporter no doubt.
