What Would You Have Done?.........

At about 3.30 I answered the door to a man claiming to be a doctor. He told me he had just visited a neighbour and now his car would not start. He had called recovery but they said they were inundated and would be at least 1½ hours. He also said he had 3 more house calls to make. One of them being a woman receiving palliative care who was really needing her morphine shot. When I asked why he was telling me this he said "I'm told that is your car and I would like to borrow it for a couple of hours" he went on to say he would leave his car keys with me for when the breakdown people came. So what would you have done?

I will tell you what I did if and when I receive any answers.

I'd tell him to bog off.
sling yer hook docy matey !
I'd shut the door and bolt it, then call the police.
I would have told him to get lost, I would also have memorised his appearance and taken the numberplate of his car (if there actually was one) and rang the police.
I would have asked him for the number of his surgery and his name, made him wait outside behind my locked front door, rang surgery and if he was legit tell them he needed a taxi and give them my address, if he was a fake ring Police
I'd have probably invited him in for a cup of tea and a friendly chat...I'm known for being sociable and full of the happy-happy-joy-joy spirit!

(I probably wouldn't have even answered the door).
No way. Another doctor would have to take over until he was able to carry on.
This sort of thing would frighten me so I would say no, close the door and lock it and immediately go to AB as you did if I had nobody close by I could phone. I would have a bad conscience too.

Interesting replies, not one in favour of lending my car to him.
Jeza, I honestly don't know. If he had his bag with him, just maybe.
I'd have shut the door after telling him to ring for a taxi, I don't believe a doctor would have said all that stuff about other patients.

Not without getting a lot more info than you've mentioned already!
And then there's the question of insurance cover
''Interesting replies, not one in favour of lending my car to him.''

no one on here is daft enough - surely?
" Oh Doctor thank god you have arrived,
my husband you see ....he's next door....
Good point Psybbo
Phone my big mate across the road!
Definitely told him to sling his hook, sounds like a scam to me. I would have thought that he would have been able to phone the surgery / hospital and they would have sent another doc to see to the other 3 house calls.
I`d have asked him for ID.
Or even a taxi. I can't believe GP insurance covers borrowing strangers' cars.
