The first female Muslim Cabinet member resigns over daves Gaza policy. Brave woman as far as I am concerned. Lets hope more people protest and this government starts to pull its finger out over the Israeli policy of killing 1000's of innocent Gaza citizens.

Netanyahu has long passed the point of avenging the deaths of the three Israeli schoolboys. Enough already.

// And where is the voice in Gaza of opposition to Hamas? // Hamas fairly won free elections in Gaza but Israel did not recognise the fact. Fatah won the elections in the West Bank and Israel recognised that Government. So the Palestinians became 2 States, one in Gaza supporting Hamas, one in the West Bank supporting Fatah. That suited the israelis, the...

No great loss - unless she's particularly vocal...
Mikey, you say you want the government to '"pull its finger out", but what would you like it to do - and do you think whatever that is would resolve the problem?
And it wasn't about three schoolboys. It was about the tunnels and Hamas rocket attacks on Israel.
Yes I agree, Baroness Wasi should be greatly admired for her stance, makes some of our other politicians to be shown as the hypocrites that they are.
since it's not entirely clear what the government's policy on gaza actually is, I'm having difficulty grasping what her problem is.
Sorry, but I can't be doing with this woman.
She is a Muslim but that didn't stop her having an affair while she was married to her first husband.
She was involved in some dodgy dealings which resulted in her being investigated in the parliamentary expenses scandal, and she was found guilty of breaching the ministerial code.
I knew her many moons ago when she lived in West Yorkshire and to be honest I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her.
She never does anything uless there is something in it for herself

Sorry to but in naomi but perhaps they should introduce strict sanctions against Israel as they did towards Russia.
Her problem, surely, is serving in a government that supports the violence against a group the is primarily Muslim (or Islamist or whatever). It wouldn't be something she felt she could be supporting. It would leave her in a difficult position.
AOG, don't be sorry. I just wonder what people expect our government to do to cure the problem.

Naomi...we have debated the Gaza issue many times here on AB and I expect we will all be doing so again in the future. I am not, and never have been a supporter of Hamas but whatever the provocation, the Israeli revenge killings has been entirely unproportional. This Government has done itself no favours by not condemning the slaughter of children, when Israel has deliberately targeted UN Schools and Hospitals. If more countries condemned Israel, instead of sitting on the fence because they don't want to be seen to criticise the Jews, perhaps Israel would sit up and take notice.

I don't know where the eventual answer to this on-going dispute lies but Israel is getting away with war crimes and murder...of that I have no doubt whatsoever.

AOG...its not often we agree but I am with you here.

Personally, I doubt that.
She was a liability to the Tories anyway. Unloyal, dishonest.

She only kept her job because she ticked too many diversity boxes.

oops, just when Cameron has been trying to get more women into his cabinet.
The idea of being proportional is utterly ridiculous in conflict. Should we have assessed German strength in Normandy before we launched D-Day? Should half of the Allied troops who liberated Sicily have been held back because of the relative weakness of Axis forces on the island. Maybe Napoleon should have complained that the Prussians should not engage in Waterloo because it was unfair...

The gas chambers were a long time ago, and Israel needs to realise that its not going to get sympathy for ever. They are treating the Palestinians in the same way as the Nazis treated the Jews.

I am fed up with listening to interviews on the Today Program, with the Israeli Ambassador, in which he uses weasel words when confronted with evidence of yet another atrocity committed by his troops in Gaza. More condemnation is required, from everybody, and it should start with dave, this morning.
I was never sure why our actions in Iraq were considered proportionate.
The Palestine/Israel problem has gone on throughout my lifetime and despite occasional claims that the problems have been resolved they keep arising. I'm not sure what the UK can do or what our policy should be.

Scooping...with respect...drivel. There is no comparison whatsoever with D-Day and what is happening in Gaza. None whatsoever, not even a little bit.

By June 1944, the Nazis had rampaged all over Europe and beyond, killing millions of completely innocent people. What have the Palestinians done ? They have no planes, tanks or warships, and Israel has all of those things, and is using them everyday. Please think before you post !
well, whatever her reputation. at least she has resigned in protest re Israeli slaughter of innocent babies/children/adults. if nothing else. lets hope it will at least embarrass david Cameron .
