I was reading in the paper that the RAF is so short of men, that they are going to recruit men from Jamaica. That is how my Dad came here. What do you all thnk of this?? Obviously, they will be allowed to stay, once their duty is over. It will add to the 2 million below!!!!

Will you please stop playing the race card. You have a terrible chip on your shoulder about black people.
Change the record.

Actually, it's not true that black soldiers will be given leave to remain.
Is that what worries you?
Do you have a link to this story?
It will be great if there is a drive to recruit more black pilots etc. West Indian regiments proved loyal during the second world war and it would be honourable for the tradition to continue.

You know what irony is, don't you?
And no, it's not like goldy, coppery and steely.
(Sheesh).

I read this in the Daily Mirror on Saturday.
I don't mind what Lucy says. I'd rather speak the truth than have everyone believing all things Black is beautiful!!!
Sp1814, I did not know about the right to remain here!!
And heck no I'm not worried, the more the merrier!!!

well funnygirl its a good question when you consider that the Gherkas had a rough time of things lately.
however, Jamaica being in the commonwealth gives those people the right to live in the commonwealth.
yes sp they did serve in WW2 the only problem was they were placed between the allies & the enemy.
which im sure will please LT

Im not surprised that the forces are short of recruits, as its not the best of times to join,
however, the powers that be need the fodder to feed the fight, & if the Brits wont do it, anybody will do.

I don't know the answer to that one Tranmere, but my dad said, a whole heap of them came over and were based in Scotland.
My dad did not actually fly the plane but was involved in gunnery! He did not fight for long as he said when he came the war was winding down.
He met my mum at a dance and decided to stay on in England!!

that story about your mum and dad sounds so romantic funnygirl!

I don't know the numbers off the top of my head. I went to the excellent 'From War to Windrush' exhibition at the Imperial War Museum a month ago.
I was ashamed by my own ignorance on what West Indians did in the war effort.
I 'spose like a lot of people, I'd been brainwashed into thinking that WWII was exclusively fought amongst white Britons.
I look forward to reading the next post by some ignoramus who complains about immigration ("Our grandparents would turn in his grave if he knew about immigration to come").
Now I can say, "Shut up...our grandparents fought and died for your sorry a*ses.
But on a serious note - it's an excellent exhibition. A real eye opener.

It'll probably be an ignoramous who thinks that heroic ghurkas are being attrociously treated by the British Government too!

I've just realised something.
You're dull.
I won't be responding to you because you make me yawn.
You don't need to respond to this you pathetic irrelevance of a woman.
|
|
|
...or is it 'irrelevence'?
Never known which way to spell that word.

I'm a bit confused by the number 'two million'. If 2 million young black men left Jamaica alone, the local economy would absolutely collapse.
Surely the figure must be a lot lower than that???

Many thanks.
I should really try to avoid that word.
Well, that and accomodation/accommodation/accomadation.
Better to stick with 'where you live'.

Will they also come here via the banana boats?

rov1200
Yeah.
Playing banjoes and singing calypso songs.
I assume you're in your 70s?
|
|
|
...or is it 'banjos'?
Blimey - Spellcheck has really ruined my ability to spell even simple words!
