Both of the above had followings far greater than 740, so if your logic is followed it would be perfectly legitimate.
AOG, there's something I need to address:
I have to say, you seem to generalise ferociously on 'left' and 'right' political thinking. You can't take one group as representative of the whole in either case (which I think is the point OEV and I are making).
'Right-Wing' for instance encompasses:
Thatcherism
Authoritarianism
Conservatism (which includes loads of things)
Laissez-Faire Capitalism
Objectivism
Fascism
Elements of all the above overlap with each other, but you can't seriously take the views or actions of even the majority of one of those groups as representative of 'right-wing'.
Exactly the same applies for the Left, by which we might include:
Socialism [Including Social Democracy and Democratic Socialism]
Communism
Anarchism
Libertarianism
Marxism
And all of the above are just broad ideologies - they don't take into account stances on individual issues. For instance you could be Left on gay rights but Right on the economy.

But then again, the Daily Mail was a famous supporter of the Black Shirts during the second world war. Makes sense that the paper would feel aggrieved that the poor peace-loving gentle folk of the BNP.
I only hope the BNP members weren't too traumatised...I'd hate to think that anyone would be kept from intimidating black people and spreading lies about immigrants.

AOG - Earlier 700 people demonstrated - or is demonstrating now illegal? There is a difference between a demonstration and not allowing free speech. In fact, isn't the whole point of demonstrating voicing free speech?
40 People clashed with the police - illegally.
I have no issue with people demonstrating - do you?

If I remember rightly, I once heard a BNP councillor saying that all people that weren't British, meaning their families originated from other countries, should be sent back to their 'home' countries. I pmsl at this!!!
how far back would you have to go to make you a legitimate Briton? On this point the BNP fail to see that people have been moving between countries since God was a boy.
I don't know alot about this party, but I'm not impressed with them and they do seem to be white supremists. Have they ever said anything explicitly racist?

Fact is that however stupid and/or outdated their views are they are LEGAL organisation and therefore have the sames rights as any other political party.
If they are so bad then outlaw them and make membership illegal.
