Funny how they announce this just before the by-election. Then, come September, they will announce that they cannot afford it after all! Why can't they give the money now?

I bet thee will be a further 4 increases in fuel bills and petrol by September so the £120 is already down the swanny!

I have to agree with Naomi, why did'nt they just ditch the policy. Far easier, far cheaper and far more effective.

I will be donating mine to the Mr and Mrs S fund whose pension he is raiding with his 10p nonsense.
We will then be able to afford better bread to go with our water .
As early retirees over 60 and not yet 65 our pension is hammered . We worked hard to provide ourselves with said pension .I sometimes wonder why we bothered ....Perhaps we should have sat on our bums for the last forty years ....we would be quids in .

on the news now this tax refund is for ONE year only. still happy ????????????????????

the reason they can't do it instantly is because all this years tax tables, tax packs and computer programmes have all be sent out and are now in use. They are going to have to resend out all the new tax tables to everyone, get them printed etc.etc. I'm assuming that this is why, it's not easy to do.
I will be spending my returned £120 split between CouncilTax, Gas and Electric, and I'm sure it won't cover the increases that have been hinted at through summer.
I would like to see less of this country's money going OUT of the country and also some real difference made to the number of people on benefits. There are too many school leavers who have never been in employment and this should change.

the problem is that the govt actually think that they are GIVING people something....thae rate of inflation is spiralling.they are immune from the real world with their inflation busting pay rises and ''expenses'' they dont live in the real world....................

Note that you are not actually going to get £120 back in your pocket in a single lump.
All they have done is increase the tax band by £120 so that you dont pay tax on another £120 you earn over a year.
Which means, in effect, you will have an "extra" £10 a month take home pay, so in fact back where you were BEFORE the new tax year started on april 6th when you lost the £10.

I live month to month and bank with HSBC not Mr Darling ..he's had more tax out of our pension already and will continue to get it until September when this new malarkey starts .In the meantime we are out of pocket .
For people on low and fixed incomes already this whole fiasco is a pain in the wallet .
By the time people actually see this money it will be eaten up by price rises anyway.If they don't get it out of you one way it's for sure they'll find some other devious way of getting it .
