I can't see the point in announcing whether the threat level is now severe or critical. We all know what kind of world we're living in, but are we all meant to hide under our beds until the level is reduced?

No, but it is well past the time to take proper action against the cause no matter what the right-on liberal minority think
We'll have to wait and see, but it would be wrong to have us perpermanently on Critical- there's nowhere to go after. It's also not workable.
Is there a simple step we've missed, YMB. You migght need to remind us
If the item turns out not to be a threat, why should the threat level be increased?
No.
ff, as you are perfectly aware there is no simple step.

That should not stop the difficult ones being started.
You'd need to remind me of a couple of workable ones that would have a significant effect and not make things worse (which is what most 'solutions' i see on here achieve)

There should not be "nowhere to go after" the public's lives are at risk 24/7, and no expense or resources should be spared in this constant fight against terrorism.

/// It's also not workable. ///

It is very workable, even though the measures taken may upset a few.

//and not make things worse//

And therein lies the issue, as you are perfectly aware given this was debated a couple of days ago, it depends on what different people think will make it worse. And no one actually knows that do they?

Oh I see, we have to wait until many are killed before we decide to increase the threat level eh?
Okay YMB- so you have no practical, workable solutions then ?
No, IMO there are.

But you dont like them.
So you have no ideas
If the package is harmless, how would it be indicative that an attack is expected imminently?
I feel sorry for all those who bought electric cars in an effort to save the planet. The batteries have now gone flat and they're being towed off the M1 at £200 a time.

Who'd have thought that Islam would affect our lives so much?
ANOTHEOLDGIT, no-one was killed in the train incident yet the threat level was raised. Clearly no-one need be killed for the threat level to go up.

/// If the package is harmless, how would it be indicative that an attack is expected imminently? ///

Simply because we have reached a stage when everyday an attack is imminent.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, if you have information the authorities are unaware of, I suggest you notify them immediately.

The only information that I happen to have is the fact that I possess a deal of common sense.

Can you definitely state here on AnswerBank that yet another terrorist attack isn't imminent?
