I thought it had to be truly exceptional to not get banned for accumulating 12 points. Time to stop, set the max or force the beaks in law. Clearly they cannot be trusted to not get conned by smart aris briefs. There is apparently 1 "driver" with 51 points, how many times has he conned the beak? OK give some room for judgement but let's say 18 points is a ban, no discretion. What say you?

You have preempted me on this issue TTT !

I can't see any reason why so many dangerous drivers should still be at large on our roads.
On another issue...what on earth must their annual insurance premiums be like ?
I think 12 points should equal a ban. They obviously haven't learnt!

TBF ummmm, I'm happy with ban at 12 full stop and I thought that was the case in all but exceptional circumstances. Clearly the beaks are getting conned and the law needs to act.
Question Author
mikey, I'm amazed they can get insured at all. Perhaps the insurers could stop this by refusing to insure anyone with over 12 points.
I don't even think exceptional circumstances should be considered. 12 points and you're banned.
Perhaps they lie to their insurers.

yes naomi, no doubt some of the are telling porkies to their insurers.
ummmm: the exceptions are usually things like they'd lose their job and the state would have to support their kids etc.
They should have thought about that before clocking up so many points.

TTT...I ask this out of devilment as much as anything else, but how many points do you think you would get, if your were clocked going at 85mph on the Motorway (!)
my question is, why do most pubs have car parks???
Mad isn't it - they don't even seem to be picking up a whopping fine each time either.

Sadly, I know a few Magistrates (mainly well-meaning 'older women in tweeds') who are suckers for these sob-stories - there should be an absolute limit at 15 and any 'exceptional circumstances at 12' should need a proper Judge to be sitting to approve it.
Piggy...not everyone who uses pubs drink alcohol.
In my opinion 12 points should be an automatic ban with no exceptional circumstances. They can bring an appeal but all the costs are borne by them personally whether successful or not.
This offender is caught driving with loads and loads of points !!!

Prisons don't have the capacity to contain all who ought to be inside. Regimes are laughably weak. This laxity feeds down to the courts. Time to smarten up so that prison is something to be feared.
Good job the points system is not used on answerbank! just imagine every answer removed gives you 3 points, 12 points and you are out,
75% of the right wingers on here , would not be on here>.

Mikey: none, never been stopped for speeding at that speed on a motorway. I know that plod generally only stop people doing over 85 and all speedos under read so I'm probably doing about 81. Technically though it would be a 3 point fixed penalty. However my license and accident record is clean, how is yours? oops silly me we don't talk about that do we!
Mikey hasn't confirmed or denied having an accident.
