It will be interesting to see what this is all about, but 17 seems to be a very large number.

That is a worrying number, one to wait for more details to emerge.
How can we comment on this story, without first knowing what kind of assault has taken place, is it physical assault or sexual.

Having gone though military training myself, just general basic training could be deemed 'physical assault' to those who have never been through the experience.
I would guess at physical,some sort of bullying which can be rife at a training establishment.
As you rightly say, too early to comment with such scant detail - however...

...sounds alarming on the face of it.

Have to wait and see.
