Can't understand why anyone would go to Egypt these days for their hols.......they have the whole world to choose from and they go to a place like this ?

No sympathy then Mikey?
Of course I have, but if people go to unstable places like Egypt, they shouldn't be surprised when something like this happens.

Because you don't have the whole world, this can happen almost anywhere and increasingly in Europe. I know several colleagues who go to Egypt because it's cheap. Truly awful for those involved.
I wonder why its so cheap ?
Awful, as you say a despicable cowardly crime.
Yes you are much safer staying at home in London.

Of course you may then get stabbed on London Bridge, or burned to death in a high rise tower block, or even have acid thrown in your face.

Things like this can happened anywhere.
What I don't understand is that although they might hate westerners do they not realise they are ruining their fellow Muslims livelihood? Would they not have it on their conscience when hotel staff start getting laid off and they can't support their families because tourists are not holidaying there anymore.

I really don't have words for what this despicable man did.
Terrorist attacks on tourists can happen anywhere, Paris, London, Berlin. If tourists stopped coming to London then the terrosists have achieved their aims. Thankfully people will continue to defy IS and visit London, and they should continue to visit Egypt if they want to.
//What I don't understand is that although they might hate westerners do they not realise they are ruining their fellow Muslims livelihood?//

That's because you aren't a violent nutter ummmm.
I can honestly recommend a Nile cruise to anyone here

Currently looking for ( OK looked for ) a ten day cruise Cairo to Aswan - and yes I find difficulty in persuading people to go with me

The old people regard their British colonial past as a time of boom ( because it was ) Nasser brought FREEDOM and steep economic decline - and you know what Marx said - ? there is no political freedom without economic freedom
do they realise they will starve if they stab foreigners ?

yes they do and they do ( and they do)

Tourism is worth ( was worth ) a billion ( bucks ) to the Egyptian economy - which I would put at low - more like two or three.
Population - around UK's - 85 million ( OK we are 60) of which half are under 15
why anyone would set foot in these sh1 H0les is beyond me anyway.
"...do they not realise they are ruining their fellow Muslims livelihood?"

They probably despise their fellow Muslims as much or perhaps even more than they do Westerners. So it's a win-win for them.
I was in Egypt years back when the bombs went off in Sharm. I was nowhere near it, I was staying in a hotel with nothing in sight. Went to the nearest town, a 30 min drive away and was called a sl ag by a boy who couldn't have been more than 8.

I'll never go back.
TTT, I'd much rather seen the Sphinx in Egypt than in Vegas!

The diving is excellent too.

Just a shame there are still no direct flights to Sharm from U.K.
I agree, the diving is fab.
A much greater loss to tourists is Tunisia. I had a smashing and very good value holiday there in about 1999, at the same resort that all the deaths occurred.

We went to see some wonderful Roman ruins and I found the people to be very friendly indeed.

What a financial disaster for the country, now its tourist is in ruins.

mikey4444, same..livelyhoods of locals are decimated, but i guess the jihadist nutters do not care about that, very selfish of them, to use a mild term, had many a great holiday in muslim countries, very sad for the locals who just want to make a living.
I had a great holiday in Tunisia when I was a young woman in my 20's, no sign of the horror that was to come years later - halcyon days??
