What a pity that all those people had to die before something was done ?

The last report I saw said there were over 600 similar tower blocks throughout the UK . This is still the tip of the iceberg!
allegedly there are none in Scotland
(presumably they've all been pulled down anyway)

The whole kit n caboodle stinks of cheapskates, back-handers and cover-ups imo

Alba....it sounds as if you are right.
//The whole kit n caboodle stinks of cheapskates, back-handers and cover-ups imo//. Yeah sounds about right.
800 household being evacuated, only informed 2 hours ago? OMG !!!!
they're all clad in porridge up there, alba: it does burn (mine always used to, anyway), but it's not usually fatal.
Several buildings near me are now due to be re-cladded as a result of this.
dear lawd Anne, that's just awful 2 hrs to get your life packed and off to gawd knows where for a few nights and then heaven (or hell) knows where they'll end up.
The whole thing stinks imho

jno, I've found a cure for not burning porrige, I do it in microwave :-D
ah, we didn't even have long wave in my youth, alba, but I now find the infallible safe way is never to touch the stuff.

I suppose it's all to the good that this is finally being sorted out now (it wasn't as if Grenfell Tower was the first that ever went up in flames, but previous fires have produced astonishingly little action). Imagine if everyone was having to flee their homes in midwinter.

2 hours of inconvenience in their lives, is much better than being killed in a fire Alba!
that is so very true trt, at least they may be able to get back home which can't be said of the Grenfell Tower survivors,

those shouldn't have to be the only two choices, though.
It sounds as though the insulation behind the cladding was more dangerous than the cladding at Grenfell. This story will go grow and grow.
True, but until an incident occurs and those involved in creating the situation are no longer getting away with it, there's no indication something has to be done.

Just heard Sajid Javid categorically say, to John Humphries, that whatever the bill will be for, for local Councils, when it comes to making tower blocks safe, the Government will pay.

Lets all hold him to that !

Sajid Javid may have misspoken.

Dougie....If that is the case, then millions of people will be able to say....we heard you !
Although this fire is not the blame of any political party, it happend on the CONS watch, and after what Javid said, it's time for Theresa to get the money tree out , because this Tragedy is going to cost the Cons dearly , and not just money.
If this is a result, direct or indirect, of austerity measures put in place by the previous administration it's comforting to know we're all in this together.
