In tried asking this on the thread about the Finsbury Park Mosque but think it deserves a thread in it's own right.
I appears that the car/van was become the 'weapon of choice' for anyone that wants to kill people !
I am scared by this as using a car has none of the problems of using a gun . Cars are not regulated but guns are very tightly controlled , at least in the UK!
I AM NOT looking for the political implications, just the wider and more relevant practical implications that using something that we all accept as normal or even mundane as a weapon!
Is it feasible or even possible to produce a viable defence against such attack ?

No.
Eddie....its obvious that terrorists have found an easy to obtain and easy to you use weapon for attacks.

But I can't think of any way that future attacks in a similar way could be stopped.

///Is it feasible or even possible to produce a viable defence against such attack ?///
That's a tricky one Eddie, what do you think?
"Is it feasible or even possible to produce a viable defence against such attack?"

Not really.

In that Adam Curtis doc there's a good bit that highlights the role of Abu Musab al-Suri in encouraging small scale, random attacks from individuals - which these attacks fit the pattern of.

I have no solution. I hoped someone on AB may come up with a useful suggestion?
We had armed police patrolling the city centre here in stoke a few days ago. I had exactly the same thought then , if a van came careering down the road, no one was going to stop them. Ironically, I also had a backpack on and thought that if I was a terrorist with a bomb in my rucksack, a couple of armed police wouldn't have stopped me blowing myself up there and then either,

Welcome back nalit I have not seen you posting in the last few days!
Thanks EDDIE, been a bit tied up with one thing and another :-)
I dont think its the weapon of choice - its just one weapon.
It wasnt used in Manchester.
Because the target seems to be innocent civilians I expect more random knife attacks and even car bombs etc. It cannot be stopped until we run out of extremists with no value in their own life.

Thanks nalit , I've been getting a bit of flack in the 'Corbyn's Rent a Mob' thread and was hoping you might lead a bit of moral support.
Nothing I can't handle though, in fact I'm enjoying it !
Nothing ever changes on AB EDDIE does it, lol.
Ill nip over and av a look if I can. AB playing up again. Like I said, nothing ever changes on AB.

Yeah, ^^^ was mentioned elsewhere 15-20 mins ago.
It's the fashionable choice of extremists at present. Not easy to counter without a bazooka toting soldier on each street corner. Even then, by the time it was obvious it was an attack it'd be too late. You need the intelligence services to pick things up and stop them before it gets that far.
OG....well said..... the common sense reply.
It was put out by the Muslim extremists who have declared a jihad that it was a way to attack the Western infidel or Kafur .
Unfortunately it seems some idiot has used the same method to target innocent people leaving a mosque.
All that is odd is the reaction from some sees to be more over the Muslims killed in this outrage than when a Muslim is the perpetrator when we see all sorts of excuses on here.
well, self-driving cars? They're supposed to be programmed so they don't hit things. You could add refinements that stop them mounting pavements at speed. I think this is a big opportunity for the makers of such cars.
No viable defence unless of course Intelligence monitoring prevents the attack in the first place.
Question Author
jno, Thank's that's the best argument I have heard for self driving cars. It would be a solution but many years away yet!
i have the solution.

cant say it on here for fear of being banned
