Oh dear....this is dreadful news. although not entirely unexpected I suppose....he has been ill for some time. Very sad news indeed....he was part of my childhood, and I am already missing him.

RIP John
here he is climbing Nelsons Column, no safety equipment, my legs just turned to jelly.

Dave.
RIP John and thank you.
I have many happy memories of watching Blue Peter in my childhood.
Sad news indeed, he was an excellent presenter & a thoroughly good man. Health & Safety? Pah! :-)

RIP John.
Seemed a very decent man. A good part of my childhood.
Smiling about the baby elephant memory.
RIP John x
R.I.P John Noakes.

Bye bye, John. Give Shep a hug from me.
Thank you Barsel
You're welcome jakep. Still makes me laugh.
I didn't realise this thread was already going so I posted one in chatterbank. Could a MOD remove it please.
Very sad with this news he was a complete hero of mine.
Sad to hear - He was a symbol of a much simpler and more innocent era for me.
RIP.
Aww that moved me maggie when you said he'd be with Shep again ..
Well that confused me, Islay!...Was just answering you and whooosh....gone....x

I was a teen when John Noakes arrived but watched him later with my children....
I read that the head of family programmes asked BBC One for an extra £50 per programme so she could employ this young, attractive and unaffected lad who was appearing in Hobson's Choice in Leicester.....

Wasn't the £50 per programme well spent!....x
I'm contentedly thinking of John Noakes chasing Shep across the Elysian fields, calling ''Come back Shep!" before bedding-down together in a tent. By his family's account his death was a release.
He was a good and happy part of my life, as of so many people's. R.I.P. John and Shep.
