Still complete confusion at our Airports....1000's of people sleeping on the floor, with no support visible from BA.

BA are refusing to give much in the way of details, but it is looking increasingly that out-sourcing IT to India was a grave mistake, and all to save money ! ts been said on the BBC today that this chaos is the worst "accident" to the IT of any airline, anywhere.

BA needs to pull its finger out and quick.

Is there any evidence that outsourcing to India has caused this?
Or is this more poison the unions are spreading?

Islay....BA are refusing to tell us what happened, but if all the IT systems went pear-shaped, then it must have happened in India.

BA needs to come clean over this.
But they don't have to tell us anything!
If they sort out the issue and provide compensation then its their business if they don't want to tell us what the issue is!
Question Author
Islay....of course they need to come clean, so that other airlines can learn from any mistakes that have been made. BA is becoming a laughing stock here.
I think they are morally bound to offer an explanation to the many thousands whose holidays have been ruined though !! platitudes are of no interest to a mother with screaming crying kids marooned in an airport with no prospect of a much looked forward to holiday..
What is it about IT systems these days?

Where is it written that they have to inform anyone what has happened?
Perhaps it was a breach of their security data or a threat was delivered directly to them.
What is this need to know what has gone on?
Personally I don't care, as long as they sort it out I will still fly with them as many others will!!
out sourcing is always high risk..BA need to take control again and PDQ...dread to think what this is doing to their stock value at the moment...as for their reputation..wellll...not great PR is it ?
Question Author
agchristie....a phrase with eggs and baskets comes to mind !

Where was the back-up system, that should have been in place ?
There appears to nothing in the way of contingency plans in place, and this is completely unforgivable for a company the size of BA.

And its not just the IT system...people have been left to fend for themselves, for 3 days, with nothing in the way of help from BA.
as participants in Investors in People I think they are indeed obliged to offer some kind of explanation as to their performance
Question Author
Islay....you don't care ?

I take it that you are not stranded at an airport somewhere at the moment ?
No its not great for their stock.
But all this call for an explanation plus the unions going on about how bad it is that they went to India is not what matters now.
What matters is getting the issue sorted, getting people where they need to be, compensating people for holidays they have been unable to take (although insurance also plays a part in this)
Then and only then do they need to tell the public what happened!
I bet it is complete bedlam. Those poor souls stranded in this manner.

I sometimes wonder what century we are living in.
Mikey if you are going to copy what I have written please don't use just part of my statement but use the whole thing!!!

Islay....BA is presiding over complete chaos.....read the comments of people reported in the media.
A FB friend was caught up in this shambles. She had to leave the airport on Saturday night and was told she will get her luggage on Tuesday. No chance of rebooking anywhere else then.
I really feel for the people stranded. Some people save up all year to have a holiday so it must be gutting.

I've never flown BA myself.
BA outsourced their entire IT to India and made many long serving loyal staff redundant.
Question Author
Eddie ...that is indeed the case !

But who is responsible for providing a back-up, in case something like this happens ? Is it BA or the Indian company ?

But it still remains that BA has not done a very good job of providing help and support to its customers, and that can't be blamed on India.
Outsourcing IT is fairly common practice.

What is the significance of BA outsourcing theirs to India?
