A London council is fining parents for driving their kids to school, is this the beginning of the end for 'School Run Mum' (and Dad)?

Is it April the 1st again ? I can't see how schools have a right to impose such a fine. It's none of their business.

It's the Council not the Schoool.

/// Hackney Borough Council will ban parents from picking up and dropping off their children///
It's the Council not the school who'll be doing the fining, as I read it.

It's not a joke it has already been started at 2 London schools.
I can see the point, there is a school near me parents start arriving more than 1/2 an hour before the school finishes to get a parking space. A lot of them only come from half a mile away!

What on Earth is going to happen to all those Chelsea Tractors?

///The "ban is set to begin in June" and, while it only applies to two schools now, could be expanded across the borough (and the capital) if it proves a real success///
Good idea, the little darlings can get themselves to school. My mum took me to school, once, the first day of infant school after that I walked or cycled. In my day you'd be mercilessly ribbed if mum or dad dropped you off! i think it'll do them good to have that life experience of getting to and from school.
Wouldn't a child walking a mile to school each day in London, breath in more pollution then when they are driven?
Apologies, I was misguided by, "Two schools in London are taking the next step in tackling the growing air pollution crisis by fining parents".

I didn't read the whole article as it sounded (and still does) ridiculous. So it is yet another set of councillors imposing nonsense of those they are supposed to be working for. Not even sure it is workable. Who is to say someone didn't just fancy a drive and coincidently pick up the kids at the same time ? Is there nothing these egomaniacs won't stick their nose into in order to satisfy their lust for control of others ?

If this is a genuine problem then place parking limits near the school. Otherwise it is clearly just another excuse to make cash cows out of drivers.
Not sure they would vulcan. Fumes come through the ventilation system when driving along. Maybe if the switch is flicked to cycle the air ? But the exercise would do them good, not to mention getting away from parents and being free to make one's own way. But that's hardly the point. The point is elites pushing around the public because they can.
Parents will just park that little bit further away from the school.
They will have to get much better at placements then. Mine have always walked, except for one year when I moved house and they didn't have any spaces in the local schools, so I had four children at schools in four different villages.
Will the teachers be banned from driving to school, too?
School runs aren't the problem. By definition, there are more than one person in the car- and probably shortish journeys. The worst are people going to work- often with a car to themselves (me included). There is such a difference on bank holidays- much more than just school holidays.
I'm sure I've come across Hackney Council 'big ideas' before.

Are they not a bit, if I may, 'radio rental'?
I well remember the joys of sitting in class soaked through to the skin, steaming gently or dithering, depending on how close to the radiator I could get.
Let the blighters suffer, too
where my relatives live, they are too far away not to do a school run, though they aren't in the capital.
Is this for real ?? I have to pick up my Grandson twice a week, we live 2 miles from the school. I am 69 my wife 70 - neither of us can walk very far without a lot of discomfort. A 4 mile round trip is not possible for us by foot I'm afraid. What is this country coming to ? Another council on the "greed line" methinks.

I agree with Eddie. There is a school near me and and at 9am the road outside is packed with parents causing obstructions when dropping their children off. There have been a couple of times when the police have arrived and dished out fixed penalty tickets.
More parking spaces needed, then?
