Charging coffee drinkers for their disposable cups could cut their use by up to 300 million a year in the UK, according to new research.
I never buy takeaway coffee. Sorry.
I saw this on the news this morning. I am not sure how anybody is going too buy a cup of tea or coffee, it is doesn't come in a disposable cup ? Most the cups I have seen are recyclable, ie paper or cardboard based.
I never buy takeaway coffee. If I need a drink when I'm in town I sit in a cafe. I wouldn't dream of walking round town drinking.
I've never understood why people do it. "It would never have happened in my day!!!!!!"
Mikey - I watched a programme not so long ago. The cups aren't recyclable.

I only have takeaway coffee when I do my sons paper round because they give it to me free. It's so nice.
I never buy it anyway too expensive and I don't want to walk around drinking coffee anyway, I'd like to sit :)

bhg - some people are very short of time.

i have occasionally had a takeaway coffee, but confess i prefer to sit and enjoy the coffee in a proper cup. Many people just leave their paper cups anywhere so they are not being recycled .
Why aren't paper cups recyclable....does anyone know ?

If cornflake packets, old envelopes and newspaper are....why not cups ?
Lol, hc, when my grandad was in hospital he got his drinks in sippy cups as he couldn't sit upright. I remember looking at him thinking 'I want one of them' :-)
Aren't they waxed to make them waterproof?
Question Author
the point of the piece is to cut down on the cups being just binned, so there must be a better way to get them recycled,
so the idea is to charge you more for your cuppa. Would you mind paying more, in what is already an expensive item.
Mikey - they aren't paper. It's just a paper covering. You could pull that off and recycle it.
I dont use them Emmie, but its not just coffee cups, its all the other takeaway outlets as well, like Chinese, Indian, Kentucky, and the rest.

The landfills are getting full up!!!!!!!
I miss my takeaway coffee
I think there is a lining in the cup which cannot be separated for recycling.
I refuse on principle to pay the same price for a cup of coffee as I would for a jarful.
Never buy it.
