I always imagined they surround the VIP like a tight body vest in case there is a shooter nearby.

Apparently they just meander about.

Bit of an exaggeration isnt it? She took a couple of steps in the wrong direction, and given the confusion and sheer terror at the time I think that's understandable!
Question Author
Can't say I agree that the confusion was understandable. The security forces should have been a well oiled machine and got her to the right car in the shortest time possible. They didn't.

And as I said if there had been a shooter about she was a sitting, or rather wondering, target.
B00, So do I. Unusually for Cassa, this is a nonsense post.
cassa.......I know what you mean....it wasn't the smoothest of operations was it? I imagined that she would have been "ushered" into her car surrounded by "gorillas" but it looked as though she was left to find her own way.
When she got to the car and inside...the driver turned up late LOL.
Never miond she is safe and the end justifies the means I suppose.
Like Katie H. says; I get tired of listening to sanctimonious 'brave' speeches about how "we" will not be cowed and every one will carry on as normal, it's easier to say when you have half a dozen highly trained body guards and an armour-plated limo.
The truth is, people do feel unsafe and nervous, and the question is, what are we going to do about it?

Are you referring to Boo's post or thread? But whichever, both are far from nonsensical.

This is about the safely of the second most important person in the land, and such security emergencies as this one should have been put to the test and rehearsed over and over again.

But obviously as in this case they wasn't, so therefore questions should be asked and more secure measures put into place.
Strange the way she stood there waiting for someone to open the door for her.

Once I knew what car is was, there appeared to be a little confusion, I would have launched myself inside in a second.
If the car has keyless entry, and I would expect it to have, a person with a key on his person needs to be very close to the car before the door will unlock and open.
They're not there to be a body vest, they're there to secure the area and have an eye in each direction, which is why they spread out. I would guess.
sorry, I don't feel remotely unsafe or nervous; anyone who lives or works within half a mile of Parliament may do, no doubt, but most Londoners just get on with their lives as they have always done. Those who lived through the Blitz must be astonished at the to-do over an old man with a Hyundai.
aog, I'm referring to the OP.
jno - //Those who lived through the Blitz must be astonished at the to-do over an old man with a Hyundai. //

What a strange observation!

I would think that anyone who has lived through war, and is therefore far more aquainted with terror and death than subsequent generations, would be entirely sympathetic towards everyone involved in this terrible day - not shrugging their shoulders and tutting about how things were so much worse in their day!
I'm in and out of central London all the time and am happy to report i'm not remotely 'terrified' either and I do think the security operation to get Teresa May into he car was absolutely shambolic, as was posting it for the world to see. which I'm sure the nasties are thrilled about. Certainly gives them a head's up about the state of her security. I don't like her and she'd be no great loss to anyone but her family, but convention does designate that we look after our Prime Minister so I do hope they do a better job than they appeared to be doing, as managing to whack her would be a real feather in their nasty little caps.
entirely sympathetic towards everyone involved in this terrible day

no doubt, andy. I'm pointing out that very few were involved. As I said, those who were there have every right to be upset. The 8 million or so who weren't (and that's just Londonders) don't require sympathy. On the level of the Blitz - or the 7/7 attacks - this is small change.
Should these pictures of security services doing their job ( good or bad) be viewed by anyone who wishes? As an aside the publicity and discussion generated by this dreadful incident must be great publicity for Isis .
I did wonder about that, anne. A word in the ear of whoever took the film and sold it to the Sun might be appropriate; and that would be the case even if she'd gone straight to the car without any confusion.
jno; //On the level of the Blitz - or the 7/7 attacks - this is small change. //

What a pompous, prattish and stupid thing to say.
I agree Khandro
, but then jno generally seems to dislike the British and posts accordingly.

Looks to me like our security need to have a word with the POTUS's secret service. They should be a body vest and she should have been shoved unceremoniously into the vehicle and then driven out at speed, not do a 3 point turn !

Some lessons to be learned.

haven't read the rest of the thread yet but I don't care what you have typed after that statement to justify it. People have been murdered ... it is crass
I don't like her and she'd be no great loss to anyone but her family

Another bizarre statement.
