Yesterday Donald Trump said at a press conference, “Putin probably assumes that he can't make a deal with me anymore because politically it's unpopular for a politician to make a deal
that’s a shame because if we could get along with Russia – and by the way, China and Japan and everyone…” Trump told reporters. “If Russia and the United States actually got together and got along — and don’t forget, we’re a very powerful nuclear country and so are they... If we have a good relationship with Russia, believe me, that’s a good thing, not a bad thing”.

We live in strange times, Khandro. Who would have expected liberals to hate Russia and love the CIA.
There is nothing wrong with getting along with any nation.

What President Trump fails to grasp - and shows no sign of grasping any time soon - is that international politics is as complex and difficult as he likes to think it is simple and easy.

If politics was as simple as picking up the phone and saying 'Let's be friends shall we ...' then every world leader ever would have done it.

The fact they they have not indicates that it is simply not that simple - and the sooner President Trump grasps that just because he would like it to be does not make it so, the sooner he will be on the way to grasping some of the complexities of his office and responsibilities.

The man's naivety is simply breath-taking.
The corrupt swamp-dwellers in Washington have a vested interest in hostile relations with Russia(amongst others) Hence their support for the bellicose Killary.
Trust me, shortly there will be prosecutions/Senate enquiries that will open your eyes to the corruption. You'll also come to realise why this anti-Trump hysteria has been whipped up and what useful fools you have all been.
There's nothing wrong with getting along with another country as long as it doesn't compromise your stance on things. The problem is that Putin has done a number of things since gaining power that makes it difficult to show tacit support for. Arguably it would be better to left someone else takes over governing Russia before offering the hand of cooperation. Otherwise Gawd only knows what situation one will find one's trapped oneself in.

With your undoubted insight, perhaps you could advise him on some of these complexities.
Khandro - It's common sense, it has nothing to do with 'insight, and since President Trump is clearly not listening to the highly paid team of people paid to stop him making a fool of himself, I doubt he would listen to me, so I'll save myself the bother - but thank for the thought.
Trump is a communist spy.
What further evidence is needed.
The Russians manipulated the election, and now it is payback time.
America will ascede to Russia in Syria, the middle east, far east and Europe.
Which is fortunate because he will need all the troops he can muster at home for the Civil War II.
I think that what most people fail to grasp is that, whatever the issue, if Trump says Yea the 'liberal' fascists will say Nay. There is a lot more of that to come so we had better get used to it.
International politics is complex only because there is a whole empire of political types who have a vested interest in it being that way. If we all got along a lot of highly paid people would be out of a job.

Drain the swamp Mr Trump, the liberal elite are squealing like pigs taken away from the trough so yuo must be doing things right.

Trump's ravings on this are probably irrelevant. The new administration looks like adopting the sensible approach of dealing very carefully with the likes of Putin. I kind of like the look of Tillerson: there's plainly a lot more to him than uncle Vlad's favourite foreign businessman.
'the likes of Putin'

Amazing, anyone from the right using this term is immediately castigated by the lefties on here. But then 'Do as i say not as I do' I guess.
What???
pardon??? ?
Tillerson's big plus is probably the fact that he knows well how Russia 'does business'
James Mathis has been outspoken in highlighting Russian interference in various elections.
So let us by all means 'get along' with Russia.
Depends what one means by it tho.
Rumour has it the Russian press is about to turn on Trump. Which actually might do him, and the rest of us, a huge favour.
if Trump decides he likes the USA, then he'll move Alaska way down past the Baltic states on his list of places to reconquer. Sarah Palin can feel safe looking out from her former domain.

jno; I've read your post several times and, forgive me, but I don't understand what you are saying.
It's a pity that time has moved on. Trump and Yeltsin, now that I WOULD have liked to have seen.
Not half!
Khandro, I'm saying Putin has already reconquered a chunk of previously independent Ukraine, which I regard as a bad thing. I also believe he wouldn't mind getting the Baltic states back again (Balts seem to agree). Nor do I think he'd mind regaining resource-rich Alaska, which a previous regime sold to the USA at 2 cents an acre; but I imagine Trump would prefer to strip the resources first himself.
