Love the word 'pesky'. Takes me back to the days of childhood comics.
brothels in the lake district, whatever next!
Had to laugh at Newquay (Nookie).
//I phoned 101 to log a complaint, but the police were absolutely no help whatsoever,’ the landlord said. ‘They basically turned around and said they couldn’t do anything, that they would have to do surveillance at the property and it would take a week.//

An equally laid-back approach? Don't expect the law to put many resources into this issue it seems...
'Laid back'? Keep the puns flowing.
'Keep the puns flowing.'

Could be a Private Eye crossword clue. :)
How flippant and glib. Nero fiddled while Rome burned.
"many of the women come from Eastern Europe" - in other words, most of them don't. They're probably just the sort of quick-thinking British entrepreneurs who will flourish after Brexit.
As long as they leave the property as they found it I don't really have a problem with this. The landlord gets his/her money and the neighbours are left in peace after a week.
depends, hc4361, aren't there rules about carrying on businesses in residential areas? It'll depend on the council, I suppose.
jno, they're long gone before the council can act on any information.

As much as your mindset fails to see foreigners in a bad light and the fact that it is more easy to blame your own, I think in this case it is safe to lay the blame for all this lies firmly on the Eastern European's shoulders.
I hope no upstanding English man is availing himself of this service.
AOG, there has always been prostitutes in the UK, and there always will be as long as people are prepared to pay for sex.

If all the 'foreign' prostitutes left there would still be plenty of prostitutes.
it's not my mindest we're dealing with here but the Mail's. It they could have said most of the women were East Europeans, they would have. The only conclusion I can draw is they weren't.

There has indeed been prostitution in the southwest for a long time, without the need for Romanian lasses to meet market requirements

I am not talking about the prostitutes here, but the foreign gangs who are importing these girls, sometimes gullible girls who do not realise what they are getting themselves into until it is too late.

*** ‘We found a 16-year-old girl in one of the brothels,’ he says. ‘She was a Romanian who had been brought over here by a Romanian organised crime group. She had been trafficked around the country. There were explicit pictures of her circulating on the internet. We got her on a plane and got her back home.’ ***

Nobody should be forced in to prostitution, AOG.

Yes I know that some of you find it hard to believe that foreigners should come in for such criticism, and woe betide anyone that dares to highlight the fact.

But if they do see evidence that they do commit crime, that old chestnut come to the fore, that being don't we have criminals also?

That fact is blatantly obvious, but it doesn't mean that we want to take in or accept even more criminals of the foreign kind.
