'he [the father] and his wife would accept anyone their daughter dated.
But he said there were "issues" involved with biracial dating in the south of America and he'd cut his daughter off because she'd started dating black student Michael Swift in secret.

methinks they move in bigoted circles and were frightened of the implications.
Oh Lordy! Where to start? First the parents for the obvious reason. The man has different coloured skin to their daughter.

Next, the girl for expecting anyone to fund her phone, clothes whatever other expenses.

Actually that will do now. I see her crowdfunding has given her $10,000. I think she's ok.
Don't sit on the fence, tell us what you think, then we can enter into a discussion.
I think it's her parents money and for them to decide.

Personally I wouldn't care who my daughter dated as long as he treated her well (and vice versa)

aog - i'm sure you can comment on the story without specifically awaiting my opinion

I'm not clear how she "no longer has access to her personal savings" - perhaps parents in the USA can do that? If so, then she does have a problem with them.

If it's the parents' own money, they can do as they please with it, however unpleasant their reasons may be; then again, people are free to join in funding her.
'there are many things against interracial relationship'

Are there? would you care to expand on that?
there are many things against interracial relationships

facepalm...
ummmm

/// Personally I wouldn't care who my daughter dated as long as he treated her well (and vice versa) ///

From the few inter-racial relationships that I personally know of, sadly this hasn't been the case, in each one the black boyfriend/husband has beaten them and then left for fresh fields.
And you have never known like for like ethnicities to experience DV, AOG?
Young people have often faced opposition from their parents about who they fall in love with, it has always been so.

Actually happened to an extent within my family some years ago too.

This couple are just one of the many examples that prove true love wins...

Breathtaking. utterly breathtaking.

Let me get this 100% right AOG....you're against interracial relationships because the one's your aware of have resulted in domestic violence, so you therefore think all black men beat their partners?

As far as the withholding of money , if it's the parents money and not the daughter , then as parents they have every right to do what they wish , as regards that aspect .

If the parents simply do not want their daughter to be dating a person with a different skin colour, again it's their right to hold those feelings ,sad as it is .

I suspect from the daughters comments that they have a
problem ( whatever // ''I could do so much better''// means ) with a mixed race relationship

//"I'll never forget the yelling my parents did, when they expressed how disappointed they were in me, that I could do so much better.//

What do I think?

Well, here we have a perfectly fit 18 year old whose parents have decided (for whatever reason) that they will no longer shower her with money and gifts. She has appealed to a wider audience to fund her future under the banner “Say No to Racism”. Of course gullible people are often even more easily parted from their money than fools are and the dosh has been rolling in.

Good luck to her (and even better luck to the gullible) but at the end of the day he who pays the piper calls the tune – and that’s just what her parents have done.
Aog. I'm sure she would rather have her parents' help and support. I just wondered why strangers would give their money to a girl they don't know in order to fund her lifestyle.
“…so you therefore think all black men beat their partners?”

I think it’s more on the lines of “some lions may bite you, so best steer clear of all lions”. Quite different to “all lions will bite you”.
"I just wondered why strangers would give their money to a girl they don't know in order to fund her lifestyle."

Look at the heading of her begging page, jo.

/// And you have never known like for like ethnicities to experience DV, AOG? ///

I knew it would not be long before someone came up with that.

Of course I have known "like for like ethnicities to experience DV", but they are not under discussion here, this thread is about Black on White relationships.
NJ, perhaps it should be 'all animals may bite you, so steer clear of them'. Some white men also beat up their partners.
